I like DSC Seasons 1 and 4 better than Seasons 2 and 3. I like PIC Season 1 better than Season 2. I don't watch The Orville. Just to throw it in there: I haven't re-watched SNW Season 1 since it first aired, and I'm not planning to either, I'm fair-weather on it.
While I like both, if someone put a gun to my head and I had to choose between DSC Season 4 or PIC Season 1, I'd go with PIC Season 1.
I currently rank them:
PIC Season 1 --> Star Trek at its most layered and adult. Yes, I know what I said and I stand by it.
DSC Season 4 --> The most Roddenberrian season of the series. Maybe the most Roddenberrian Star Trek since 1979.
DSC Season 1 --> The rocky edginess gives it a quality I love. It'll never be like this again.
DSC Season 2 --> It still works even though you can see where they papered over the cracks.
DSC Season 3 --> The flaws in this season can't be papered over as easily, there was also more story potential here than in S2, and it wasn't realized, so I place it lower.
PIC Season 2 --> The first few episodes were better, but it loses focus mid-way through, and it only partially recovers by the end.
So those are my preferences. I don't know how many other people's preferences this aligns with.
On the other hand: You're not me. If it's been this long and you've made it this far, you might as well just finish DSC before moving onto PIC. Go for it.
