What should I read?

Have just realised have not read a ST book in over 4 months because being reading other stuff from history books to Ian Rankin book's.
Want to get a new one but don't know what to get.
Thinking about Terok Nor. Any other suggestions?

As we often ask whenever someone presents us with such a quandary: Do you have a particular favorite Trek series? Favorite character(s)? Prefer action/adventure, or more character-driven pieces, or perhaps a combination of both? Standalone stories, or do you like arc-based/serialized tales that might span more than one book?

It's easier to compile a shopping list if we know who we're cooking for. :)

Fair questions. My favourite series to watch is DS9 but with novels I tend to go for books that add to the canon i.e. outside the set shows for instance the Vanguard series, the post DS9 and Voyager series, new frontier etc.

I don't really buy books based on which characters they focus on but Gul Dukat was always a favourite on screen and that is why I was thinking of Terok Nor as I assume the Gul is in it a fair bit.

I like a combination. I prefer ones which are driven more on the characters though than just on the dictation of action. A problem I have with many modern films is that the characters and plot seem to be nowhere as important as the action. Which is wrong.

I like both stand alones and serials. I think the serials have to be justified and not just seem like a money making scheme. For example I really enjoyed the DS9 'rebels' 3 parter for instance but felt it could have been one book. Wheras I felt federation could have been 2.

Given what you're describing, I'd say you should go for Terok Nor. You won't be disappointed.

The first 100 pages of the first book can be slow--but don't give up! I promise you, the overall series is worth it. :)

Have you read the new DS9R book, Fearful Symmetry, yet? Because if not you reall should check it out.

Thanks. I'm convinced. Was just reading a few reviews on amazon and sounds like you might be right it sounds like exactly what I normally read

I haven't no. I haven't read a Star Trek book in at least 4 months probably closer to 6 actually.
I might give that a go as well.

I decided I need a change from reading Star Trek and a friend suggested reading Rankin's Rebus books. Now i've never really got into crime fiction but it's had me hooked but now want to get back into books and think Terok Nor and Fearful symmetry might be the place to start.

As I understand it Fearful S is a stand alone novel so may read that first to get back into Trek lit.

Any other suggestions out there?
Are there any STXI tie-in books planned as yet?

Like I said been out of the ST circuit for a bit. Trying to play catch up :)

Fearful Symmetry isn't a stand alone it's part of the DS9-relaunch.

There most likely will be a novelization. It hasn't been officially announced yet. Other than that nothing has been announced beside a Hardcover reprint of the Crucible trilogy with an additional new short story.
