What should I do?

On 26 March I bought just over $100 worth of items from an online store. I should have got delivery within 8 working days. When I hadn't received my items by 17 April I discovered, from a product review site, that many other people were also having problems with this company.

The company's reviews

I contacted the company and told them that if I didn't receive my items by 2 May I would open a dispute through Paypal. I received a reply that i should be receiving my order within a few days. I didn't. On the 26 April I received another email stating my items would arrive the following week. They didn't. On the 30 April I received another email stating my items had just been dispatched.

I opened a dispute through Paypal on the 2 May and was told that the company had to 12 May to respond. On the same day I received yet another email stating that my items had been dispatched.

On 8 May I received a package but it only contained two-thirds of my order. I assume that this is the order dispatched on 30 April. I have yet to receive the order dispatched on 2 May.

Paypal has contacted me stating that the dispute has been resolved in my favour and when i checked the refunded money was in my Paypal account.

What should I do now? I am willing to pay for what I have received but I feel that the company should compensate for me for the unacceptable delay. They did say that the were putting a $10 voucher in my order but it wasn't in the parcel i have received and beside I have no intention of buying anything from this company again.

Can the company concern now open up their own dispute with Paypal to get the cost of what i received back? Should I make an offer to the company to see if they are willing to take a part-payment? Or should I forget the inconvenience and pay them in full?

Fucking keep it. Unless you are wealthy enough to be charitable towards asshole companies. I bet you need the money more than they do.

If you receive any communication from them regarding what you received and wether you owe them any money, possibly reconsider. But for now consider it just payment for the stress they caused you.

eta: Hopefully if this happens often enough they'll change their shady business practices.

Yeah, considering how much they fucked this up, you owe them nothing. I don't consider it much different from a restaurant comping your check after a bad experience. You paid for timely delivery and you didn't get it.

I think you've been more than fair, unless Pay Pal or the seller asks for a payment for items delivered then you might be in the clear, if you are in any doubt just e-mail Pay Pal again.

I agree with everyone else. The service you've received has been appalling, so you owe them nothing.

This company is in the same country as you? Like the others said, to hell with them.

Get your refund, partial if you're feeling generous and want to pay for whatever you have received, full if you're like me & think they need to learn a lesson.

I've only ever had this level of service from ebay sellers in China (to U.S.). A lot of it was the shit poor Chinese Post and other carriers, but it taught me a lesson.

Up to recently they have been claiming to be "Australia's Largest Online Toy Store" and their domain name is Playdex.com.au. However due to customers researching their company they now admit that their headquarters is in Auckland, New Zealand. I looked at their Australian addresses using Google Maps and found one of the addresses is an large apartment block but no apartment number is given. The other address is a warehouse complex. It does seem that my orders have been shipped from Sydney not from New Zealand.

Their phone number is not listed on their website but some customers have tried phoning them at the numbers listed on their company listing but the calls have ever gone to message bank or are not answered at all.

They remove all negative comments on their Facebook page. Even though I got an answer to my emails, many other customers say their emails have gone unanswered.

Seems to be a very incompetent/dishonest company but i still feel guilty about receiving something for nothing.

Once you received notice that Paypal resolved in your favor, you owe the company nothing. Any items received after you filed with Paypal and the refund are covered by the results of that ruling.

As others have said, it's over and done with. The company is incompetent at best, and that's being generous. Paypal has given you back your money, and they don't generally do that without good reason.

I've had occasional refunds for crappy service, and don't feel the least bit guilty about accepting them.

But if you are feeling guilty, make a donation to charity and call it a learning experience.

OH totally agree with timewalker about the guilt ---> charity.

Really it's these checks and balances that make companies get their act together. This happened to me once with ebay, got refunded the money via paypal and weeks later the item showed up. It was too late for the gift I had bought it for though and I'd had to rebuy the same thing so it seemed just.

You could email them, offering to return the item(s) if they send you a pre-paid shipping label.

They probably won't, but at least you gave it a shot.

Like the others, I would just keep the money and whatever shipments you received/will receive. They did not provide the service that they promised, so they forfeited their right to that payment. I would probably not feel too guilty about it. Even if you did want to somehow refund them or send back the products, it sounds like their communication with customers is abysmal and they likely wouldn't respond to you anyway. It's a lost cause. I do like the suggestion of donating the money to charity, or otherwise putting the money that you would have spent on those products to good use.

Update - still have not received the rest of my order. However it looks like Paypal has frozen Playdex's account as Playdex is no longer offering Paypal as a method of payment.

If the rest of my order turns up I will contact Paypal and offer to return the money as I hope it will then go to someone else's refund.
