What should be the next great Trek game?

Me, I would like to see a Star Trek Game based on the concept of Gal Civ II. Where in you could play any of the factions of Star Trek, build up your resources, design ships and go to war. I think a nice RPG element would be cool where in you could assign offers to command your ships. Follow specific ships and kind of keep a running narrative of what happened in your "universe".

Minus the RPG elements, Birth of the Federation sounds pretty close to what you're on about.

I'd like something along the line of Mass Effect.
Now, I'm not really a fan of that game, but I liked the character interaction, morality choices, etc...
So, in other words, an RPG game where you have alot of choice in controlling a realistic (and well-written) character in a diverse environment. (Hope I didn't sound too technical...)

I'd very much like to see something along the lines of Mass Effect. It would be perfect for Star Trek.

Anyone who like GalCiv/MoO/BotF style 4x games should take a look at Distant Worlds. Don't let that it's 2D put you off. It's a gem of a game.

And I've made some Star Trek mods for it too. Unfortunately, we can't mod much yet, but there's an expansion in the works that will improve modding greatly.

I've done an Archer era mod :- http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2562947

A Kirk era mod :- http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2619128

A Spock era mod :- http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2709511

And a TNG era mod :- http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2497781

The game isn't cheap, but if you like 4x, you won't be disappointed.

Sounds like an interesting game, I'll have to take a look at it.

I've played one or two really good mods for Civilization 3 & 4 that did just that.

At this point I'll take what I can get as far as releases. Even with the new film, Trek Gaming has been pretty dead lately. I'm not counting STO.

I know it has probably been said before but I would love to see a Birth of the Federation sequel or at least a new Trek game in the same genre.

Agreed on a GC2 inspired game. It did a lot of things right.

I would love a new Bridge Commander type game but with more emphasis on moral choices and more open world plus faster flowing combat DS9 style and not the slow TNG style we got from the original BC game. Also with the likes of Kinect and voice control you could get a very enhanced style of gameplay though for me some sort of co-op BC game would be great imagine giving orders to your friends who could be your pilot or tactical officer, just like a real crew.

Failing that imagine a Mass Effect RPG style game with space combat as well.

A Mass Effect 2 style game is definitely the way to go. That game has great action, drama and superb writing. Pure action games, like the new game seems to be, aren't really Star Trek in spirit. I love Trek action as much as anybody, but the drama needs to be there too.

http://forums.galciv2.com/122770 theres a star trek mod for gal civ 2 if you havn't already seen it.

Im currently involved in the development of an indie Trek game, and this is a very interesting thread for insight into what fans are looking for. We are not going to be making it public for a few months, but I can tell you its a First-Person game, heavily influenced by mass effect - and we are also going to be using kinect. Direct control of the ship however, is not going to be included. Ship combat is still going to be in though, i cant say much more on that yet. It is also episodic based, in theme with the tv shows, lasting an hour-2 each. You will be able to free-roam on your ship.

Whats peoples thoughts on this. What would you like to see? Is not controlling the ship a real put off for players? I personally feel like controlling the ship is used too often in mainstream titles. Any feedback would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I think the GalCiv2 mod has been dead for a couple of years now, though it is pretty awesome what they did with it.

Your project sounds great! Space combat isn't important to me. If it's gonna be like Mass Effect, then you're onto a good thing IMO.
