What scifi series should I watch next?

I'd say Babylon 5, excellent story arc that was more or less planned out from the beginning and a great cast of characetrs (plus the ships are quite good too).

I'd also recommend Doctor Who, but only if you don't mind a sci-fi series that doesn't take it self too seriously. In that respect it's closer to Buffy. It's about a time travelling alien called the Doctor and his (usually) female companion who go about fighting evil. The stories vary from not so serious to very serious.

yeah, NuWho is pretty good too. (I never watched old Who).

It is a definite mixed bag, though. Very odd at times. But some really good stuff as well.

Nuwho is in the same "Universe" as the original series, but it's clear things have changed since then, and it's easy for a new viewer to jump in without too much backstory, as long as they start in season one (By season four, the new series gets a little bit self-refferential, but expect the slate to be wiped clean for the next Doctor/producer).

Most of the series is written by Russel T. Davies, whose scripts tend to fluctuate in quality. However, the episodes by Stephen Moffat (Which usually come in the middle of the season) are excellent, and Moffat is taking control of the show next year.

Torchwood is a spin-off featuring Captain Jack, one of the Eccleston Doctor's companions, and picks up on a plot thread from season two.

Sarah Jane Adventures is the second spin-off, featuring former companion Sarah Jane Smith from the classic series (She reappeared in the new series ala the TOS guys in Next Gen)

B-5

nuBSG(ignore Master of Orion-he obviously has personal bones to pick, not to mention a complete disregard for the spoiler rules)

Farscape

The 4400(trust Greg Cox, Greg Cox is wise in all things!;))

Charlie Jade-if you like Bladerunner you'll love this

Torchwood

Primeval-dinosaurs in the streets of London, what could be more fun? And lots of time-travel

Jeremiah-sadly, only S1 is available on disc due to JMS fighting with the studios(again!)

Space: Above and Beyond- WWII in space. A little cheesy but a fascinating back story and interesting characters

The Eccleston season of Dr. Who-simply smashing!

LOST-although frustrating at times(has any series EVER posed so many unsolved mysteries?) it is coming into it's own as one of the truly great sci-fi shows of all time

I think BSG is largely smoke and mirrors. My picks would be:

Firefly -- great characters, fun, short series (not a huge commitment of time)
Farscape -- good sci-fi, muppets
Lost -- you can start next season, just except to be confused for about five episodes
TOS -- fun, and if you don't have that kind of time, see the new movie (ST XI)
B5 -- maybe just season 3/4 to save time
BSG -- if you do watch it, just stop watching after season 2, the idea behind the show falls apart
Dr Who -- #9 and #10; if you watch just the Christmas shows, you'll still be in for a treat and will get the general feeling

I'm also enjoying Primeval, which is (re?)running on SciFi now - they seem to be in the middle of the 1st season/series now. It may be old for U.K. viewers, but it is new to me! :)

Farscape
An excellent series featuring the work of the Jim Henson Company, remember to watch the Peacekeeper Wars miniseries as it is the true finale.

The X-Files
Seasons 1-5 are excellect, 6/7 are hit or miss, 8/9 slide downhill.

Babylon 5
Another excellent five year saga with a couple of television movies here and there. You have to watch the whole thing to get the full experience.

How is supernatural? Is it a heroes clone?

NO.

No, it isn't. It's so much better than Heroes and so unlike Heroes in its storytelling and format that it's sad. A little show with no budget on a crap network outclasses Heroes. I recommend watching it in order on Netflix, Itunes, or DVD because there are little clues along the way to the main story that seem like absolutely nothing at the time, but have significance 2 or 3 years down the road. Season one is weaker than the rest; it really kicks into gear in the second half of season one around episode nine. SPN is one of those rare shows that gets better as it progresses, also; the character development of the brothers and their relationship.....it just leaves Nathan and Peter Petrelli in the dust I'm sorry to say. It's what Nathan and Peter could have been if someone at the helm had cared enough to script it. No, it's better. Also, it's so funny at times that your sides will hurt from laughing.

Poor advice/commentary, IMO. Farscape is a lot more than muppets, LOST needs to be watched from the beginning-jumping in next season will leave you so confused you'll never get it, B5 requires full immersion-even the somewhat slow first season. No comment on Dr Who-you either get it or you don't.
