For me it's just a matter of there being so many things I like to do with my spare time. Video games are just one small piece of the pie.
Sibling torment is as good an excuses as any.

Nothing, really. Some studying, some working, some other interests and whatnot. Girlfriend and I do most things together, so that's no issue.
Really, none of it is so terribly thwarting, though. There are simply only so many games up my niche enough for me to go all hardcore on.

Yeah, me neither. Although, the thing is for me, gaming is my primary hobby. Instead of watching TV, I would rather play a game. Also, my gaming time is generally in short bursts (15 to 45 minutes) on very short games (1-3 hours), so it stops that feeling of tedium from setting in. I don't get bored with games because I'm always playing something new and I never play long enough to get tired of one specific game. I never planned it that way, but it works out well.

Family would be the thing that prevents me, but my wife knows that gaming is my primary hobby. So for example after getting home from the park and frozen yogurt place we put my son down for a nap, and she let me play almost 3 hours of Battlefield 3. I even got to slip in an episode of DS9 into all that. Thank goodness my son took a 4 hour nap.
