Spoilers, obviously...
.
What possibilities do you see in the new universe?
I mean, it's all been blown to hell; what could be different? And how could you retro-actively tie it in with 'hints' given in the original timeline?
A few thoughts I had after seeing the movie:
Spock might see his reunification work complete; Vulcans are no longer a threat to the Romulan way of life; all he had to do for his ideal was watch his entire home planet be destroyed. You could say Vulcans are pretentious and Romulans too devious; that the original Romulan way of life (honor and passion) was how they are supposed to be.
Starfleet might become more militaristic without the Vulcans preaching peace at all cost. This might be good (think: Borg); but this might also be bad. What if it fractures some time in the future?
I see Q knowing some of this (his dislike of Vulcans; the way he forces Starfleet to become more militaristic in order to battle the Borg -- how would he know if it would work -- perhaps he knows this Starfleet can handle the Borg in the future?)
It's been stated the Vulcans act as a counterweight of sorts to the Humans; with them out of the picture (at least until they've repopulated enough); would some other race step in? Or would the Federation become more alien-like instead of Humans and Vulcans on ultimately very Human-looking vessels?
Any other ideas?
