Has anyone besides Shatner and Nimoy from the original cast or anyone from the other series casts, like Frakes, Burton or Spiner, given what they think about the new movie and if any of them are interested in going to see it?
I seem to recall Burton saying he thinks Trek should go forward from the 24th century, never back.
Agree wholeheartedly....it was gettting so advanced and relying on technology so much it was gettting boring.

hey! be nice to frakes. you never know, he might direct the sequel!Has anyone besides Shatner and Nimoy from the original cast or anyone from the other series casts, like Frakes, Burton or Spiner, given what they think about the new movie and if any of them are interested in going to see it?
To be entirely fair, they're actors, people paid to portray fictional characters. I couldn't give two hoots as to what Jonathan Frakes has to say about this movie, no more than I care whether Christopher Lambert has anything to say about the rumored Highlander remake.

I don't see Trek hitting a sign that says "DO NOT ENTER" at the end of the 24th century. If this film is successful we/he may still get that wish and I hope we do. But we need Paramount to believe Trek is viable again, and we need someone to step up with new story telling that is capable of expanding that part of Treks future because honestly it was gettting so advanced and relying on technology so much it was gettting boring.
A tempory jump back to a less advanced era is going to be fun IMO.
Then maybe we'll learn something new to take into the future.

Better Frakes than Stuart Baird!

And Spiner http://trekmovie.com/2008/12/10/spiner-comes-to-the-defense-of-rick-berman-and-jj-abrams/Frakes on Star Trek 2009 and beyond
excerpts from iF Magazine
iF: And of course there’s STAR TREK – but of course there was a long time between the original series and the movies and it was a logical progression to go from CLASSIC TREK to NEXT GEN movies. Speaking of STAR TREK, are you excited about the new J.J. Abrams movie?
FRAKES: I’ve very optimistic about the new movie. I’m a big fan of his as a storyteller and I was there and it looked great. I was lucky enough to visit the set and was overwhelmed how beautiful the [Enterprise] bridge was.
iF: You were just there to hang out – no top secret cameo?
FRAKES: [The] First [A.D. - Tommy Gormley] was my first [on Thunderbirds], and J.J. is married to a girl I know in Maine, so we had these connections and we’ve been trading notes back and forth and finally went over to have a little schmooze with them and it happened to be the day they were on the bridge. I must say, it was very emotional to be on someone else’s STAR TREK set, as you could imagine.
iF: At the same time, do you feel sad that the NEXT GEN movies have come to an end?
FRAKES: Yes. By all means. I had dinner with Patrick [Stewart] last week and we were both ready to go back to do another one.
iF: Do you think that ship has sailed that NEXT GEN anything is pretty much off the table.
FRAKES: I don’t think so. I think if this is successful, it opens up any number of possibilities for the whole STAR TREK franchise, so we’ll see how this does.
I hope it’s a wonderful success. It looks fun and Leonard [Nimoy] is involved and J.J. [Abrams] is a really talented guy. I know a lot of those actors [involved] and they are fantastic. I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be successful.
…
It’s senseless to be anything other than optimistic about it. It’s also typical of every genre. It’s like in James Bond, well Sean Connery was it. Then Roger Moore came along, and they were like, ‘Roger Moore? No way!’ Then it was ‘Roger Moore, OK.’ Batman is the same way. ‘Not Christian Bale! Christian Bale as Batman? No way’ Then, ‘Oh, that’s pretty good.’
In the interview Burton was complimentary towards Star Trek’s new director, saying "J.J. Abrams is a really talented guy," and it appears he is holding out some hope that the new movie focusing on the TOS era, may bring back interest in another TNG era movie:At the end of the day I’m pretty certain that a lot of the fan base would like to see the Next Generation cast do one more turn around the galaxy, and I guess the performance of this next movie will have a lot to do with whether that comes to pass. It will make people see whether there’s an appetite for Star Trek again. So I have really mixed emotions. I haven’t quite decided how I feel about this new picture. My life is going to go on and Star Trek will always be an important part of it. Whether we do another movie or not is not in my control and the most important thing to me is that I have lasting friendships and memories from the seven years I spend on the show. And that’s better than the price of Latinum.
