So what is TrekBBS or its denizens indivdually doing to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day?

Be ye plannin' summat excitin'? Mekkin' star wars fans walk the plank like the landlubbers they be? Drinkin' rum and instillin' th' fear o' God in a few scurvy dogs?

Strictly speaking, I don't think you need a dead man -- just his treasure chest. I'm quite sure the line “Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest” refers to a treasure chest, not a body.

Unless he's a REALLY big dead dude!

And be sure to drink a toast to actor Robert Newton, the Treasure Island star who started the whole “pirate talk” thing. (He talked that way because it was his natural Cornish accent.)

You're absolutely right, it does refer to a treasure chest; but that's nowhere near as funny as a corpse.
 
WELL...I was under the allegedly not-so-mistaken impression--that the term which you state, it being, the holiday in question is to be thus referred to as "International Talk Like A Pirate Day"--that said term is therefore...an amateur attempt at the construction of such said holiday--and therefore is to be conducted solely by said amateurs....

The last thing Cornwall needs is an "International Talk Like a Pirate Day".

What we really need is a "Cornish, Try Not to Talk Like a Pirate, Just For a Day, PLEASE?! Oh, And Stop Calling Me 'Your Lover', pal. Day".

Arr, y' be a snibbet. When Oi wre a gurl, we used'n call each uvver "Mi Cock" and "Mi burd", not "Mi luvver!" Be'nt yum glad we'ms stopped thaat!
 
I think I be annoying some scurvy louts on Halo Reach today with me pirate talk. Unless of course, they be true mates and join in the fun.
