What mysteries do you think the finale will actually answer?

OK, what mysteries, if any, do you think will actually be resolved in the finale? Not what mysteries do you want to be resolved. What mysteries do you think actually will be resolved?

I would say:

1) What is the meaning of the flashsideways, and how does that alternate timeline relate to the "prime" timeline?

2) Not sure how to phrase this one exactly, but what exactly is the nature of Jacob's bet with MiB regarding the nature of humanity? That is, in "The Incident", MiB suggested that people are inherently bad, but Jacob said that some day people would arrive on the Island who would prove him wrong. I would assume that we'll find out what exactly happens if and when Jacob wins that bet.

That's about it. I'm not that optimistic about any other remaining mysteries being resolved. I would love for them to also answer:

3) What exactly *is* the light at the center of the Island?, and

4) What specifically will happen if MiB wins?

but I think they might well continue with the vague nonsense they've been using on those questions even through the finale.

One longstanding question which I don't think was ever answered was:

5) Why can't women get pregnant on the Island without dying?

but that's been ignored for so long, that I'd be surprised if they revisit it.

Regard 5), I think it will be covered because we saw Claudia give birth in "Across the Sea." I like to think Cuse and Lindeof are good enough writers to give thematic foreshadowing to remind viewers about certain events and ideas. I certainly thought of that particular mystery during that scene.

But Claire gave birth on the island too, as she and Claudia arrived on the island being pregnant. It seems only women conceiving on the island are not able to get children on the island, as Sun got pregnant on the island but gave birth off the island.

We'll see.

As there are too many open questions I gave up on them last year, so whatever questions they answer I'll be fine with. I just want it to be over with, which is really strange, as I really, really liked and enjoyed Lost not long ago, but this year feels rushed and kinda off.

Hey, I just realized "Across the Sea" explained the infertility issue! Since the Island is the source of all life/souls on Earth, new life/souls cannot be born on the Island. They flow from the Island to the rest of the world. So if you conceive on the Island it will be a soulless baby that will die in gestation. But if you conceive off Island, the soul goes in the baby, and it can safely be born on the Island.

I guess finding out what happened to Sun's baby is pretty far down on the list. Oh, well.

The better question might be which mysteries were presented as major mysteries and which probably won't be answered. We've now been told that the "minor" mysteries won't (all) be answered, but there are some which we were led to assume were pretty major previously, but which I doubt will be answered. For example:

a) who/what are the Others, what's their function, where do they come from, how/why are they selected?

b) what was Widmore's story? How did he amass his fortune? Why was he trying to get back to the island for all those years?

c) what, really, was the Dharma Initiative, how did they choose the island, why did they choose the island, what were they really doing and why were supplies still being dropped (and by whom)?

d) why can't women get pregnant and give birth on the island? (previously mentioned above)

e) who built the temple, statue, etc. and why?

f) we now know that the "numbers" were the degrees on Jacob's mirror wheel, but why did they pop up all over the place, have magical powers and how were they linked into the golden light/electromagnetic energy?

g) how does the island move, both in time and space, and how is that linked to the golden light/electromagnetic energy?

h) what, exactly, are Jacob's powers and scope of knowledge?

All of these things were major plot points and presented as such, but with only 2.5 hours to go in what is sure to be a character-driven storyline, I think some or all will be ignored ... or, even worse, will get a "brush off" of an explanation, along the lines of "the whispered voices are the voices of the dead in some kind of purgatory on the island".

With all of the build up over the years, and the rabid cult following, the "answers" were always bound to be disappointing, but boy, they've sure really done a lousy job of it. It's impossible not to compare this to the ending of Battlestar Galactica, where halfway through the finale, you just get a sinking feeling as you realize that they aren't going to give you any answers to the mythology at all, it's just wrapping up the characters' storylines.

I think the only mystery answered in the finale will be the meaning of the flash sideways, and I bet even that could possibly be vague and open for interpretation.

Anyone who thinks they are going to start rattling off answers about Hurleybird, Jacob's cabin, etc. are only kidding themselves.

I just don't want a Disney ending. I want it to be light and dark and hopefully some crazy twist no one saw coming.

At this point, I'll settle for knowing where all the magic comes from. Is Mother a supernatural being? If so, what kind? If not, where do her powers come from? What is the white light in the cave? How did it create the smoke monster--and not some non answer like telling us what it did (e.g., It released the MIB's inner nature) and using that as an answer. Where is the island's magic coming from? Time travel and all the other magical powers people and things have--just simply, where does the magic come from? Somehow I'm afraid we won't get this basic answers.

All I really want is resolution for the characters of Desmond, Eloise, Ji Yeon, Aaron, and Walt. There's gotta be something going on there.

What do I think they'll resolve? Nothing. Based on past experience with this show, very little will really get answered.

What needs to be answered:

1. What is the island and why can it be moved?

2. What is the light?

3. Why the connections to ancient Egypt?

4. Why was the Dharma Initiative on the island? Did they know about the light?

5. Who was the earth mother?

I could go on and on with a thousand questions, but they won't be answered either.

With 2 1/2 hrs, they could cover a lot of territory but the only one I really want is "what is the nature of the flash sideways?" If they resolve every major characters' story in the finale, which is more important than giving us more answers, that could be all they have time for. I wouldn't mind a bit more on exactly who/what MIB and Jacob and Alison Janney are/were.

Pretty sure the only thing that's going to be answered in the Finale is who lives and who dies.

Everything else that is going to be answered has been answered.

Why the connections to ancient Egypt? Apparently ancient Eygptians came to the Island at some point and built things there. 4. Why was the Dharma Initiative on the island? Did they know about the light? They came to solve the Valenzetti Equation and prevent the world from a nuclear holocaust. They knew about the "unique electromagnetic properties" and poked a hole in it in the Swan, but they never found the Source Cave because only the Protector can find it or allow it to be found. 5. Who was the earth mother? That one I don't know!

Hmmm....nobody else thinks they're going to tell us the nature of the bet between Jacob and MiB on the nature of humanity? Seems like an obvious thing for them to resolve. Or maybe people just aren't counting that as a major mystery?
