What movie WOULD you like to see remade?

Yeah, we all complain about great movies that get remade into not so great movies, so how about the other way around? What movies do you think could be turned into something great if given a modern redo?

One I'd like to see is a remake of John Wayne's The Quiet Man. As it stands it's nearly a classic as is, but I think it suffers from a few things. From a technical standpoint, I was always taken out of the narrative by the bad studio sets used for many of the out doors scenes.

While I liked Wayne in the role I would also like to see someone with a little more range tackle it.

Besides, who wouldn't want to see a new version of the big brawl (homaged in the Clint Eastwood film Any Which Way You Can)in the film?

So, what other movies would be ripe for a remake?

Let's start with Logan's Run. I expect Greg Cox and more people showing up here to support this idea, as we already talked about it in several other threads.

Suggestions were: the casting of very young actors. In the original movie people had to die when they turned 30. In a remake people should die with 18, 21 at most.
Therefore Ryan Gosling, who is already out of it, would be too mature in his appearance (not old, he's quite attractive )

So we have already talked about wanting to see a remake, but not which actors should get the parts of Logan, Jessica and Francis. I'm open for ideas.....

Second: The Never-Ending Story. We already talked about possible directors. Peter Jackson being one of them. I would prefer a trilogy, close to the original novel by Michael Ende with the same characters being cast. So someone is needed as director who is able to put much blood, sweat and tears into it. The novel had charm, so should a remake.
I really liked the first movie. The second was worse. I can't stand the third. I don't want to see such a decline in quality again. As to NES we haven't talked about a probable cast, too.

Examples for bad remakes are: Poseidon Adventure, Psycho.... at least for me.

Beyond that, almost everything I've ever wanted to see remade has been remade, for better and worse, so nothing else really sticks out in my mind.

Well, more a re-adaptation of the book than a remake of any of the previous movies...

^ Also ditto. Let's start with not having a fair-haired Holmes,
and going back to the novel's love interest-free yarn.

... And, ditto again, though for all its violations of the Prydain books,
Disney's core idea of mashing up the plots of The Book of Three
and The Black Cauldron actually isn't a terrible one.

This one was reportedly in the works a few years ago, but there hasn't been any news lately.
A first-rate (albeit highly combustible) premise that the movie itself whiffed on.

... And yes, I'd quite like to co-write all these, too.

The original is great in this case, but I would say Metropolis. Although it is a great film, it suffers from being a little on the nose with the message and some incidents of cheesiness. I'd like to see the same story and message made with modern sensibilities and less pithiness. And only if it's done by a great director.

I'm drawing blank on bad movies that were good ideas at the moment. But I bet there's going to be a Back To The Future remake sometime in the next five years.

Not so much a remake, but I think Sam Spade is ripe for some kind of reboot/reimaging.

A modern (but sill noir) Falcon would be fine, but I'm thinking just launch a whole new franchise based around him, they could use ideas from his other appearances in Hammett's books as influence.

Hamm would be the obvious choice.

I'd also like to see the When Worlds Collide remake they said was going to happen a few years back. A movie based on After Worlds Collide would be nice too, since George Pal didn't get to make his planned version back in the 50s.

I'd be up for that so long as they don't use modern forensics.

Speaking of which, I think a Columbo remake would be interesting. You could say it's heresy to play the character without Peter Falk, but on the other hand, with all these crime shows that are just about forensics, one liners and sex scenes it'd be cool to see a crime show where the detective wins by mind-screwing the criminal.

Good to hear about Back To The Future. One childhood memory that won't get raped.
