What movie is this?

Holdfast

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Starting to bug me that I can't remember.

Late 60s at least; probably mid-late 70s. Think it was a movie; possibly a TV pilot that may/may not have been made into a series. Astronaut goes into space, has some sort of accident where he stares into the sun too long. On returning to Earth, he now has special powers if takes his sunglasses off - super strength/speed or something like that. But if he kept the glasses off too long, he would die (there was some funky heavy percussive/heartbeat sound effect to indicate how close he was to blowing up).

Someone must know? I'd love to look it up and remember how it ended. Thanks!

I have no idea what it is, but now I'm curious, too. That sounds pretty interesting (in a cheesy sort of way).

The answer is Northstar.

That's the one! Thanks guys!

(wow, I got the year wrong by about at least decade though. Must have been very cheesy!)

Anyone remember what happened? IMDB doesn't have a full plot synopsis.

I remember quite enjoying the movie at the time.

Don't worry about getting the year wrong...TV in 1986 pretty much looked like 60s movies at the best of times!

I've had that where a movie will be on cable late at night, maybe some Richard Gere crimes of passion lawyer type movie...and I'll think it must be from '87 or '88...but you check later and it's from 1992. I know that's not much...but I'm 35 now...so I really think I should be able to tell. I mean that because I was exposed to the movies of that period enought that I should be able to say the year more specifically.

I thought I'd imaged that film. I've never heard anyone talk about it, or even seen it since I was little.

^ I don't really know what brought it to mind yesterday. Just a really random memory of the "heartbeat" death-count and the screen gradually turning red as the sunpower overloaded him. :D

True enough!
