This pretty much sums up how i feel about this whole no air date thing:

They should have gone right from Picard into discovery. I actually cancelled my CBS All Access Subscription after Picard.

By the time it finally airs, we will have waited for Discovery longer than Burnham has been waiting for it to arrive in the future

*cue montage of all the disco forum users checking our future phones waiting for a "hey gurl" text from discovery like burnham in the season 3 trailer. we all end up with lomg corn row hair as well*

I'm going to have to change the way I voted. I now think it's going to be September too.

I don't see July happening if they're recording the orchestra one musician at a time. And I think they'll air the season un-broken. They might have enough of a lead to be able to start the season in August, but that's an odd time to begin. September is more normal.

That's a 17-month gap.

They CAN do Zoom meetings. Put thirty people on one call.

If you wish to see what's possible, this is Epcot Center's Voices of Liberty singing a virtual concert (it's less than a full orchestra, i know):

That's nothing ...

it wasn't uncommon for The Sopranos to have TWO YEAR season gaps.

They could. I didn't think they were doing it on that scale. I thought they were bringing in one person at a time to record and then out. They could do it on Zoom, but without proper sound-proofing, all you need is a truck to pass by or a chainsaw or a police siren...

It reminds me of an interview with Depeche Mode I read one tme.

Back in the 80's, sampling was the newest thing. One of the band members had the idea at the time of sampling a choir one singer at a time. Dave Gahan (the lead singer) suggested, "Why don't we just hire a choir and do them all at once?"

Background noise can be edited out digitally.

OK you realize that was impossible, even before COVID right?

No I don't really know their filming schedule - just in my opinion they should have had their schedule setup to move to Discovery within at least 60 days (if they are truly trying to have new trek on consistently). That would have been Discovery in May through July .... then like Lower Deck for September.

Having discovery come back in 13 months from finale doesn't seem unreasonable schedule. I mean it wasn't like they were waiting after aired for it to be renewed.

If you go to a 4 show schedule - then you could have a show air January-March, May-July, September-November. Then have around 15 months between shows in rotation.

Not to mention the noticeable time lag. I've been on a TON of Zoom conferences (and the like) over the past few months for work and the time delay amongst the various users is very noticable. I'd imagine getting everything to sync up would be a royal PITA for the editors and sound engineers.

Can't be all that difficult, I've already seen several orchestral pieces done on Yt just in the last couple of weeks that came out sounding and looking great.
I don't think they actually do it by using Zoom Live though.
They do the recording and then put it all together correctly, later.
