It could have happened through some time-travel effect, since she had stopped sleeping with Roddenberry a few years before she was cast on Star Trek.
But I get it, you have a point, actors have no clue about their characters and should not be considered reliable sources, they are just sheep after all, and Nichols just thought she was more important than she was, instead of being satisfied with sitting there and not saying a word except to utter lines about hailing frequencies, silly woman. She should just know her place.
Beyond Uhura? I think I saw that book last week at the used bookstore. I was going to get it but, well, didn't because I got THE ROMULAN WAY instead and a few others. But I will go back and get it and read it. I owe her that since I have red Shatner's books on his TREK experience..wouldn't hurt to get her side...
Upon thinking about what I would have changed about TREK XI? I think I would have shown Spock's birth scene. I think it was filmed, and would have gone great after Kirk's birth (or just before if they had to)..I think it would have helped the story if we had seen Spock's father react the way he did in FINAL FRONTIER. And then see, how over time, Spock had affected him as well.
Oh well..
