What kind of Star Trek animated projects would you like see in the future?

- Something that expands on the "Star Trek" universe, instead of just trying to re-write it
- Some truly alien aliens
- A mixture of new and pre-existing characters (animation would make the problem of actors aging moot, as long as they can still provide voices)
- A NEW premise that takes the world of "Star Trek" FORWARD; for instance, exploring outside the galaxy, or just exploring distant parts of the Gamma and Delta Quadrants that Voyager and DS9 didn't reach.

This is right on. Because it would be animation, there would really be no limitations whatsoever in what they could do.
Thus, they could set it any time, use any character (actor age or death is now irrelevant), any designs with almost no restraint.
The original animated series understood this; because it was more animation, more aliens than ever before, who could truly look alien, etc.

Literally any story from Trek could be told in animated format.

Ah but "with great power comes great responsibility" though; such freedom should only be granted to those with a true vision, not someone merely looking to capitalize on the Trek name, which has become the current trend.
But to someone with a true Trek vision, animation is probably the quintessential way to visualize it in a universe as complex as Trek's.

The animation with Star Trek seems the least interesting, would need new animators or approach to it perhaps even tweak or remaster the old one.

Just came across this last night:

Anyone else think that the JJprise actually looks better in animated form?

There is some very good original artwork on the page:

TAS is highly criticized by some, but for all of its arguable faults I still really enjoy it. Is the main reason the fact that I saw it first-run when I was very young? Maybe.

I've never found the JJprise to be a good looking ship, doesn't hold a candle to the original.

If they did go an animated route, I'd want something all new. A new setting, new ship/station, new characters, that way the creators could have far more freedom.

Just blowing my own horn a bit, the artist from that page Peter Markowski let me create a 3D Kirk based on his design which I did a couple of quick tests with:

I should say that I'm more of a modeler than an animator. Also does the thumbnail in the first video look really strange to anyone else?

What kind of Star Trek animated projects would you like see in the future? Would you like a direct to DVD animated movie or a direct to streaming animated series or something else? What should be the plot and setting? Who should be hired as voice actors?
None.

I always kind of wanted a The Next Generation animated series done in the style of the Dini/Timm/Burnett Batman series and telling stories in the time period between "All Good Things..." and Generations.

If they did an animated series, I would want Paramount/CBS to take it seriously and not make it a "kiddie" show. Maybe an anthology, filling in untold or unseen elements, the gaps.

I'm open to everything at this point. Streaming and direct to DVD animated features make the most sense. And I'm very happy to watch stories across all Trek time periods covering all kinds of different stuff. This has been one of my wishes since Discovery was reported as a financial success, that they'd expand the entire Trek universe in different ways, specifically anime or animated series or movies.

I mentioned a similar idea of direct-to-DVD movies much like what Marvel used to do and Warner Bros./DC copied and continued a while back, only to be poo-pooed and told that it wouldn't work.

I'd still like that concept/idea to continue, only with adapting some Star Trek novels (imagine an animated version of The Final Reflection, or of Just How Much For The Planet?, produced by great animators and and done by great studios.) Star Trek: Aurora only scratched the surface-I want to see more animated Star Trek movies, and even a TV series (maybe something similar in style to The Clone Wars or Rebels) .

Reanimated TAS is a waste of time, it'd just emphasize the mostly-terrible voice work. I'm surprised a fan hasn't already tried it in Unity or some similar 3D engine. Besides, some of that original TAS art was beautiful.

And yes, I agree, it is mediocre, and doesn't hold up.

Dude, this is good work-don't beat yourself up.
