What is your pet peeve?

Oh no, i'm not saying to creep up to it if it is yellow (or red). But if the light is green he was told to creep up to the point where you can make the left once the oncoming traffic is clear.

I am hoping to take this course soon myself since it takes quite a bit of money off of our insurance. I'm interested to see what they tell me when i go! I'll let you know when it happens!

My two biggest pet peeves are being around people who smoke and also people who talk on cell phones or text while driving.

I checked with him again. He is insisting (the they told him in class) that you are expected by law (at least here in NY) to creep up past the line to make the left when it is clear (as long as you do that while the light is green.) The line of course is there for when the light is red and you come up to the intersection.

Honestly, i don't know what to believe. I haven't looked online yet, (frankly i don't care enough)....but anyway, the people that just sit there when they can creep up and wait for oncoming traffic to clear to make that turn drive me crazy! Of course, this could be moot if we're doing it wrong!

This situation you are describing sounds like a good way to get stuck in the middle of traffic if the light changes before you can make your left. I find it weird that traffic school would recommend driving behavior that could lead to an accident.

Of course, in that situation, if I can see that traffic is going to clear before the light changes, I do creep up.

Like I said earlier, while I'm pretty sure it's illegal, it's practically required where I live.

^ Speaking of traffic, here's another pet peeve of mine:

Bumper stickers.

I don't mean ALL of them. One, or two at most - that's fine. But when you've got douchebags (of any political persuasion) that practically have their whole CARS covered with them, that's when my hackles sit up and turn red. There's a reason they're called bumper stickers and not entire car stickers.

And I used to think the annoying Progressive Insurance girl was a pet peeve, but I just saw one ad where she was in an auto racing getup and I admit she looked hot in that one.

Eh, if you want to lower the value of your car with something extremely difficult to remove, I'm not going to hold that against you. Plus, it gives me a minute of entertainment during traffic.

Three pet peeves and anger triggers.
1. someone knocking my glasses of my face
2. Anyone talking about my family
3. Dumbass syndrome

^ Red Forman? Is that you? ;)

Okay, I'm on a roll now. More pet peeves:

- The asshats responsible for the utterly, agonizingly, glacially slow pace of releasing Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent on DVD. (SVU is the exception - it's practically day-and-date.)

- Same as above, but replace L&O-on-DVD with "classic James Bond on Blu-Ray". :brickwall:

I find self indulgent ignorance really annoying. You know the people that come into a thread/conversation, immediately make an erroneous statement of fact, then go on to expound their "incites" on said topic while claiming everyone else is wrong, refusing to give sources while claiming any counter sources are unreliable.
People who use the wrong homophone, like “incite” instead of “insight.”

People who put apostrophes where they aren't needed.

"Which of these photo's do you like the best?"
The Punctuation Nazi’s strike again!

I know that you can't legally make a right on red in many states (in fact, i don't think you can even do it in NYC proper), but it is the law here on the island. In fact (again, according my to husband who took the course, required by his company so that the insurance rate is lowered), if you don't make a right on red when safe it is against the law! So, i am wondering if this creeping up to make a left is also just a NY law. Very confusing when even in your own state the laws are different!

Weird. Most states allow right hand turns on red except when specifically prohibited. It used to be the case that you couldn't, but it was changed during the 70s because of the oil embargo. According to wikipedia, the only place in the United States that does not allow right turn on red is in New York City itself.

If you don't make a right turn on red (NYC aside), you're really annoying and I'll add that to my pet peeves. I can't say it's required by law, but it's certainly a good driving practice because it keeps traffic flowing. In some cases, you'd be in danger of being rear ended by a driver expecting you to go, but, since you should still slow down or stop in case it is necessary to yield, that driver is being careless if he isn't able to anticipate you reaching a full stop and would be completely at fault.

What about left turns on red? Also, I do get annoyed when a right turn on red is prohibited for that particular intersection but there's someone behind you getting mad at you for not going. I'm not going to get a ticket because you're impatient, buddy.

^ Yeah, that bugs me too! I mean, there's a sign right there that says NO TURN ON RED so why is the butt behind me honking? I'm not getting a ticket for you buddy.

Heh, we have one corner where there is the NToR sign but people kept making the turn. So someone hand wrote a sign and put it under the NToR sign. It said, "What is it about 'no turn on red' that you don't understand?" I have to wonder who felt so strongly about it to do that! :rommie:

For what it's worth, you can legally make a left turn on red if you are going from a one way street to another one way street. I have yet to see that happen, but it's one of my goals in life.

Ah, that reminds me of another pet peeve: driving in Montreal, which is one-way hell. I used to live on what I think was pretty much the only two-way residential road on the entire island, but that's now one-way, too. Next time I go there I'm sticking to public transport.
