I worked as a typist for an insurance company for 15 1/2 years; after that, I did general office work. My max speed was around 75 WPM using QWERTY. I took the test yesterday and averaged in the mid 50 WPM. I type using the touch method. I took typing in my Sophomore and Junior years of high school, plus typing at business college.

What's interesting is that I took a typing class in high school, but I did terribly and hated it. I just couldn't get used to it, so after the class I went back to my typing with my index fingers. However, over the course of the next year I slowly started to slip into formal typing. A year later I would have made my typing teacher proud. I really thought it hadn't sunk in, but I guess it did.

I've had a qwerty keyboard in front of me daily since I was 7, but I've never taken a typing class - although I've played Mavis Beacon and such, and I found that what they were trying to get me to do slowed me down a lot and caused me to add errors. I can hunt-and-peck (with no actual hunting involved - my muscle memory knows where the keys are) at 70 WPM with near perfect accuracy.

With an arse the size of mine I can type a complete version of War and Peace just by bouncing on the keyboard seven times.

I got an 88 on that test.

And I have always used QWERTY - never DVORAK.

And now:

@J.Allen: Bleah.
@mac: I could stand to hear a little more.
@tsq: I believe you. I think.

When I smash my face on the keyboard, it types out the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America, word for word.

When I'm sufficiently motivated, I can just will the words onto the screen.

I once farted the Magna Carta.
My farts transcend the written language and do nothing less but convey absolute bliss to all who experience them.

With an arse the size of mine I can type a complete version of War and Peace just by bouncing on the keyboard seven times.
Yeah, but how many bounces per minute can you do?
