What is your favourite starfighter?

It may be driven by spending most of 1997-2000 playing X-wing Vs Tie Fighter (and later when they had a re-release the original X Wing and Tie Fighter games) followed by the Rogue Squadron series of games but I've always been obsessed with the starfighters seen throughout the series.

Throw in the exceptional model work from day dot making them feel "real" and an interest in flying myself (achieving my blue wings through RAF cadets when younger) and seeing them in action in the various films and TV series always gave me goosebumps!

So I put it to you to vote for your favourite fighter - I'll try to get all of them (and keep it to canon for ease).

As an aside, it occurred to me recently that the four buttons on an Xbox controller match to the ROTJ era four fighters from the Rebels - X, Y, A ,B

I'm sure I'll have forgotten a few but there are plenty to choose from here and lets go with up to 2 choices so you can pick one from each side if you do so please

From Star Wars, the X-Wing, though in the gaming days, the A-Wing also had its moments.

Branching out, I'd possibly lean between the X-Wing, Viper and Starfury.

I went with X-Wing - though the B-Wing is a beautiful ship... and IMHO deserves more post-ROTJ screen-time.

X-Wing (infinitesimally sleeker R1 version), TIE Defender (hypothetical First Order version, I think the black hull and silver collectors looks a lot better), and, if I was allowed to pick a third, the Jedi Starfighter (AotC version; it's so pointy!).

My runner up is the basic TIE. The rotated bi-plane look is quite effective at being both familiar and not.

Damn right! Remember buzzing when one of my mates got the Balance of Power expansion for X Wing v Tie Fighter and being able to use it

The design allowing the craft to rotate around the fixed position cockpit was a genius move

Shame it seemed to have been retired in the sequel trilogy - did think in TLJ that the bombers might have been related to the B-wings but sadly not

My favorite Star Wars starfighters are from "Cygnus Spaceworks".
I Like the design elements from the Lambda-class shuttle.

1) Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing / Assault Gunboat

2) Missile Boat

Yeah, in the Tie Fighter video game with all the expansion packs, the funnest spacefighter was probably the Missile Boat. Its armament was insane, and while docked with a rearming tug it was infinite. One of them could take out anything.

I was going with X-wing, B-wing, and TIE Defender, but I was only allowed two choices. So dropped the Defender.

The X-wing in the classic all round space superiority fighter. You can do just about anything with it. It is basically the hero ship that is also a generic fighter. When they show up, things happen.

The B-wing is a very interesting fighter. Weird in shape and heavy in firepower. With the added composite beam weapon, they gave in the Rebel and Skeleton Crew that just added to the deadliness of this fighter against capital ships.

The TIE Defender was one of the most fun ships to play in TIE Fighter. After trying to survive in shieldless TIEs for ages with sometimes getting the Gunboats or the Avenger, the Defender was the clearly superior fighter in almost all categories. It is just rare. That they added it in Rebels made it a "real" thing, even if it doesn't seem as overpowered as it was in TIE Fighter.
