I use to easily say that professional football was my favorite sport until I could no longer handle rooting for my favorite team. Now I migrate more towards MMA. Wondering where the board slants.

Other might win this as it will cover the following major sports

Cricket
Tennis
Motorsports i.e F1
Rugby
Other Footballs i.e Aussie rules
Golf
Athletics

And If I had to guess the most watched spectator sports in the world no Particular Order

Football (association)
Cricket
Tennis
Hockey (Field)
Rugby
F1
American Football
Baseball
Basketball
Golf

Of course in some regions some sports will do better than others, after all cricket is big in places like India.

True. This is more geared towards an American panel. Our major four spectator sports are Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey.

^^Pondwater is absolutely right!

I voted:

American Football. The Ultimate Gladiator Sport.

Or, People-Watching at a Major International Airport.

Same Difference.

Two:

1) Baseball, and

2) Nothing else.

I know next to nothing about Baseball.

As to my favorites:

1. Soccer (National Team, FC Bayern Munich)
2. Swimming (Biedermann, Koch, Phelps, Lochte, Le Clos and the likes)
3. Athletics/Track and Field (Bolt and the German athletes)

Nr. 2 and 3 preferably on Eurosport.

Nr. 2 and 3 have World Championships this year.....

I'm not a Basketball fan, but I live near Würzburg. This is Dirk Nowitzki's native city.

^ Look at it this way: If it was easy to be a fan of [insert team name here], then what would be the point? Sometimes you have to go through a real rough patch.

Already have done. :techman: :)

That's OK - until a few years ago, I didn't either. We all gotta start somewhere. ;)

I mean, I'm not exactly an expert on it now, but baseball is the only sport I really know anything about. At least I can TALK about it to people - it makes a great conversation starter. I couldn't enjoy watching a sport that I couldn't discuss with fellow fans.

I don't understand (American) football, I know that much. I mean, I'm 45 years old and I still don't know what a "down" is. Pathetic, innit?

Soccer (National Team, FC Bayern Munich)

Have you ever been to Allianz Arena? That is one of the most beautiful stadiums I have ever seen.

1. 25 years of mostly sucking is a really bad "rough patch."
2. The core of the problem is bad decisions regularly made by the owner. The only way to "fire" the owner is to boycott the team. My one man boycott isn't working though. Washington Redskins is still one of the top most valuable team brandings in the NFL.

Hey, I know about that sort of thing. I am a Mets fan, after all.

(I am also a Yankees fan. Apparently it's considered unusual to like both. Well, that. :p )

What's your view on the team name? Do you think they should change it?

That is unusual. Just like it is unusual to be both a Redskins fan and a Ravens fan. They are geographically very close, but the fan bases don't get along.

I remember rooting for the Mets one year against the Yankees in the World Series. It was the underdog vs. the evil empire.

I use to be adamantly against changing the name due to the tradition associated with it. Now, I am okay with changing the team name after Snyder sells the team. It will signify a new beginning. And to be honest, it is probably inevitable anyway that they will change their name at some point in the future.

At least in that case, they're not from the same city. That's why I root for the Yankees and the Mets - they're both New York teams.

New York is a huge city though. Driving from Washington, DC to Baltimore only takes about 45 minutes. Washingtonians will sometimes joke that Baltimore is just a suburb of DC, and it pisses off some people from Baltimore.
