I have always been really fond of this film series. There really isn't a Rocky film I don't like (although some are better than others). Here is my ranking:

6. Rocky III - This movie wishes it was Rocky IV.
5. Rocky II - It's not believable he did so well considering part of his training was compromised by his concern for his wife.
4. Rocky V - This one catches a lot of flak, but I enjoyed it.
3. Rocky Balboa - Late life comebacks can easily go wrong. This was handled well.
2. Rocky - It was very original in its day and did get best picture.
1. Rocky IV - the sweetest moment of the franchise was Rocky knocking down that Russian.

To me....the original ia the best..II a close second...III was enjoyable..IV had its moments...Rocky Balboa. (Basically VI) was ok. And V ...eh

Other than the flip at the end just in decreasing order as we go

Rocky IV is the most ludicrous but that's also why it's the most fun

All six of them have good stuff in them. That said I'm partial to the first five.

Rocky III
Rocky II
Rocky
Rocky Balboa
Rocky IV
Rocky V

I actually like all the movies except Rocky V, which I thought just sucked.

1. Rocky: The perfect movie.
2. Rocky III: A tad on the shallow side but still the most entertaining sequel.
3. Rocky Balboa: A noble and mostly successful attempt at recapturing the heart and the soul of the original.
4. Rocky IV: Entertaining but beyond shallow. An extended music video, basking in Reagan era patriotic sentimentality.
5. Rocky V: A noble but absolutely unsuccessful attempt at recapturing the heart and soul of the original. There are moments I like a lot and Sage Stallone was great as Rocky Jr, but the flick is a misfire.
6. Rocky II: The prototypical remake sequel. The biggest problem with it is that where the first film had drama the sequel had melodrama. The entire midsection of the movie was a soap opera, complete with the heroine in a coma. Bo-ring!

It's funny to see the first Rocky come in with the most votes because it works differently in real-life conversation.

In real life, almost everyone says the first is "the best" but invariably one of the sequels is the "favorite". So there's always, in my limited experience, the first one and then the favorite.

For me, II is my favorite.

I know that's not the most popular choice, but it's the first one I saw and I absolutely love it. It also has my favorite training sequence of the series. And it's the movie that made Rocky a champion.

I rank them like this:

Rocky II
Rocky I
Rocky III
Rocky IV
Rocky Balboa (actually this is probably the second best of the series, but the others have been around longer and are bit more my "favorite")
Rocky V (not as bad as its reputation. I loved the streetfighter Rocky)

5. Rocky II - It's not believable he did so well considering part of his training was compromised by his concern for his wife.

Actually, I always thought Rocky was getting his ass kicked in the sequel. He had a moment here and there, but I always took the Apollo rematch as Apollo MOSTLY kicking his butt until the very end.

In fact, at the end, you can hear the announcers saying that all Apollo has to do is make it to the final bell and he retains the title. Whereas in the first one, it's made a big deal that the fight was pretty even and that Apollo won it by a hair.

In the sequel, they made it clear that wasn't the case. And I believe Apollo was even taunting Rocky at the end of III that "You beat me by a second." or something to that effect.

Rocky IV
Rocky V

In the beginning, Rocky III was once my favorite. Just loved watching Rocky redeem himself after his fall from grace. But, ultimately, it's all about his first story, the tale of the underdog from Philly being given his once-in-a-lifetime shot at the title.

The fourth one DOES have one of the best final fights of the series, but it's a total cheesefest wrapped up in way too much uber-patriotism. Although I understand why many dig it, it's just not for me.
