Somewhat to my surprise I've only seen five of those movies. Of the five, Alien is by far my favourite, and Blade Runner is by an equal margin my least favourite.
I've only seen a handful of Ridley Scott's movies, but overall I think he's pretty overrated. Alien was good but not as good as what James Cameron did with Aliens. Blade Runner is overrated crap that isn't nearly as dark, unique, or thoughtful as people seem to think it is. Legend is an overblown fantasy that spends too much time on production design and introduces too many midgets wearing ugly make-up in an ill-advised attempt to make them look "whimsical."Black Hawk Down is a bit gruesome for my taste but it does succeed as an intense modern war movie. Gladiator is good but I'd need to see it again before I could consider upgrading it to great. I'm not quite sure what the point of Kingdom of Heaven is. Like Blade Runner, I think Kingdom of Heaven is unaware that the ideas it's revealing aren't particularly new or subversive.
Well here's a thing; an indicator of how memorable a film is gauged by the strength of feeling it generates as well as the more anodyne like/dislike continuum. A quick tally of 44 posts shows:
this film is crap: Thelma & Louise 1; Hannibal 1; Gladiator (boring) 1; Legend 1; Blade Runner 4.
It wins both ways!
Most people can't be bothered to post on any thread when they don't like something, unless it's specifically asking for it. For instance a thread entitled Avatar - the best movie Ever! would be asking for it.
