What is the scariest story (true or not) that you ever heard?

When I was in 7th grade I remember a teacher telling us about five kids went hiking and when they didnt return home searchers went looking for them.

They found the kids in a cave and everyone of them had died of fright. They didnt have a mark on them, but they saw something so terrifying that it killed them and nobody ever found out what they saw that was so terrifying.

It most likely isnt true, but to this day I get the chills thinking about what could be so terrifying that its mere presence would kill five kids.

A good friend of mine told me about her mother having a dream.

Years ago her grandfather died on a bridge while fishing. Some time later she dreams at night of her brother who came to her and wished to say goodbye.. "i'm going fishing on the bridge" he said.

Mere hours later she gets a call from the family that her brother has died that night.

[The Grim Ghost]

I don't know if it is the scariest I've heard, but I like this one.

A college kid is trying to get into a fraternity. To get in, he has to spend the night in a haunted house where several people have been killled in the past.

They send him in, and tell him that he cannot leave no matter what happens until daybreak.

A few of the fraternity brothers hold a vigil outside the house, and through the night they hear some strange noises, but figure it is the kid inside trying to mess with them.

So morning comes, and the kid doesn't come out. A few of them try to yell to the kid that it is okay to come out, but get no answer.

Feeling a bit spooked, they send in the bravest of them to go and check up on the kids and see if he is ok.

The 1st one goes in, and doesn't come out. But now there is a steady tapping noise coming from up near the attic.

They send in a 2nd guy to see what the hold up is and he doesn't come out. Still the tapping goes on, getting steadily louder.

Finally a group of 10 run inside to see what the hell is going on.

The race up the stairs to the attic and throw open the door.

The sight that they find is horrific!

The original kid sent in to spend the night is kneeling in the corner, beating the floor again and again with a bloody hammer. His hair has turned white and his eyes have rolled back to the top of his head. Running to him and restraining him, they find he has beaten the heads of the two guys sent to check up on him to a bloody pulp!
