What is it with you?

And I also have to second the nomination for The Office.

I've been told it's really funny and all that, yet just last week I attempted to watch an episode, but couldn't.

Why?

Because of the drunk monkies they seem to have operating the god damn cameras! I thought The Blair Witch Project was bad for unstable camera shots, I got about 5 minutes into the show before I had to turn the channel.

Frig, all it was was jitter this, two seconds, cut to the other camera, jiggle around, zoom in, try to focus, cut to the next camera, shake it around, jiggle up and down, zoom out, cut to the other camera, jiggle jiggle, oops you zoomed in too fast and to the left and buddy who's talking is way out of the shot, jerk it back into proper viewing... OH WAIT.... CUT TO THE OTHER CAMERA QUICK!!!..... ffs, I thought there was an earthquake going on during filming. I want to watch a show and be able to focus on what's going on for at least 5 seconds before you cut to another camera.

I could understand this type of film work during a hockey game, continually trying to keep track of the hockey puck or something, or maybe I could buy this type of camera work while police are chasing down a suspect in COPS, but frig, somebody's gotta take the bag of coke from the cameramen and tell them to chill the hell out a bit with the tasmanian devil camera work.

I can't even remember what the episode was all about because I was so distracted by the crappy high school camera work.

Neighbours/Home and Away (Aussie soapies loved for reasons I don't understand)
Yep. Ditto Packed to the Rafters, All Saints and Blue Heelers. Very much "to each their own" material, all of them.

I had an absolutely terrifying experience with Home and Away a little while ago.

When I was in school I used to come home and watch it every day while I ate dinner. Mindless entertainment and something to chat about at lunch the next day. I lost the habit when I went to uni.

So a few months back, some station was showing old clips from H&A from a decade ago. To my horror, I remembered every clip they showed, knew what was going to happen next, and in some cases could recite the dialogue. From episodes I saw once ten years ago.

I do not have an especially good memory. This is clearly some horrific brain-washing conspiracy. There must be thousands of these memory files lodged in my brain, undeletable as iTunes. My theory is that everyone who watches Australian soap operas for too long is being unwittingly turned into a sleeper agent. Who knows when we'll be triggered?

You've stumbled onto our plan for world domination.

Or, more likely, we make some truly godawful TV that lodges in the brain like mould. What a legacy.
