This is a cool place. I like Trek and I like discussing it here. People bring up great points baout the various shows, about the ships, about the captains, about what's cool and what's not. i think, for example that ships like Prometheous are excessive, dumb and fanboyish but a lot a lot of fans love it. That's what this board is all about. Some like captain Sisko because he's cooler than Archer. That's cool. Trek is about all those discussions but it's also about more. Trek is often very philosophical, both with what's said onscreen and what's implied, and those discussions, the ones that go deeper hold my interest just as much as what the best series is, or the coolest ship. But naturally these deeper philosophical issues are going to be more hotly debated. But why stop them from being discussed. Why did Misfit Toy close down that religion thread? maybe I should ask this in the Questions forum, but I'm asking it here, because no one's going to read it there. Every so often in that thread, a flat, judgmental comment had been made, but titwas soon followed by good discussion and thought (elements which are the hallmarts of a good Trek episode). Star Trek seems to have no religion, at least not for the federation, but there is always talk about various types of Gods and their role in shaping decisions and societies. All of that is left up to interesting interpretation, which can also help us to interpret the meaning of religion today. That too is also what Trek is about (A Private Little War was an allegory for the VietNam war which was happening a the time)
Don't shy away from tough topics, because Trek itself rarely has.
