What inspired your non-Star Trek username / nickname?

The Alan Parsons Project.

Specifically: Alan Parsons has a friend named Lee Abrams who works with him on occasion. Lee provided spoken word vocal samples to a few Project songs. On any album where he did this, he was credited thusly:

Oral rendition: Mr. Laser Beam

('Laser Beam' = anagram of 'Lee Abrams')

For awhile, I used the name Babaganoosh. It's derived from 'baba ghanouj' which is a popular snack food dish (made from pureed eggplant, used as a dip) in some Middle Eastern countries. Also used as a character name on one of my favorite TV shows, MXC.

<=== name is of mysterious origin*, but it pops up in TV and movies quite often since I started using it:
- in Star Trek (2009), yeah I'm canon now!
- in Monsters vs. Aliens (2010)
- in Disney's Prep and Landing
- others I cannot recall at the moment, although I get really excited when I spot a new Sector 7 reference in something

*Actually, when I signed up I mis-remembered the Trek term I wanted to use. I didn't know how to change it and the name grew on me. I would not change it if I could.

a certain secret government agency in a movie about shapeshifting robots?

when i'm not on here, my two main names are Sundance and Redline.

Sundance was something my dad called me once (rather inexplicably) when i was after a name for playing Quake 2.

Redline is generally used as a name for racing games and Transformers related stuff. i created a Transformer alter-ego named Redline. he's a heavily armed Autobot who transforms into a variety of cars depending on my mood. (or which model i'm using in Transformers Quake 2)

RJ are the initials of my first and middle name (and one of my real-life nicknames) and Diogenes was an ancient Greek wiseass who, probably apocryphally, mouthed off to Alexander the Great.

In 1999 I worked in a mail room that handled all the mail for a 52 story office building. (Bankers Hall in Calgary) Due to security all of the couriers had to pick up and drop off all of their packages to our mail room in the basement. I worked the window where the packages exited and entered our office. I got very good at streamlining the process so that the couriers could come and go almost instantly. (They really liked that because time is money for them, and the previous guy was slow as molasses.) One day one of them called me Sparky in reference to MASH (It was a bad reference..should have called me Radar because of my almost psychic ability to get them on their way) The name Sparky stuck with the couriers and the mail room staff though. Even to this day, I will randomly see someone who I worked with or someone who is/was a courier, and they will call me Sparky.

I use three different usernames.

ares93 = ARE-593, the original licence plate number of my first car. The number five was often mistaken for an 's' and over time i kept it.

Little Johnny = nickname i acquired from a now late friend.

Shattered Destiny = the above mentioned friend had a sticker on his humvee that said, "Destiny, I make my own." in a broken glass style font. Ergo, shattered destiny.

one of the older folks on here and when I decided to register after much lurking, it described the way I felt. Daughter suggested a number in case the name was taken, so my age...which is now +10
