What if they had made 'Western Star Trek'?

There was a thread a while back here that definitively showed that 'Wagon Train to the Stars' was not a literal intention. But 'what if' another western, but set in space, had been the aim? What might it have been like? Would that silly old stereotypical raising of the hand and "How, white man" have been changed to the respectful spreading of the fingers and "Live long and prosper" as a new Native American greeting? What might the Enterprise have looked like? Would they have had something of the same general shape but steampunk-y and including wood? Considering the remake of 'Wild, Wild West' and the film 'Cowboys and Aliens' it kind of makes you think. As additional food for thought, I have pulled the following images from work the cast members did elsewhere.

Nimoy could have been the only Native American aboard.

Star Trek The Final Frontier
Human colonies stick a flag and claim a planet for The Federation, however its already inhabited by sentient beings.....
Federation President gets elected on a policy of Manifest Destiny
Klingons invade colonial planets on a regular basis claiming they were there first
The Neutral Zone becomes the Federation version of the Mason-Dixon line
Earth rampant expansionism causes division and so they secede from the Federation, other planets say so long, goodbye, farewell, up yours...

The ship would probably be steampunkish. Iron and rivets on the outside. Victorian splendor on the inside. Spock would be a Mingo like character. (from the Daniel Boone show). There are many similarities between Spock and Mingo anyway. The Klingons would be more Mexican influenced.

That makes me think of Battlestar Galactica.

It should. The religion in question is Mormons. Glenn Larson mined Mormonism for Battlestar Galactica's backstory. A lost 13th tribe separated from the 12, Kobol. References from Mormon belief used in BSG.

As for Star Trek as a western set in space... So you mean Firefly?

Believe me I know! Seventh generation Mormon here (though not a member of the church).

Scotty and McCoy would have fit right in, good cowboy names there.

So are we talking 19th century naval uniforms for the crew? Crews manning "phaser cannons" arrayed along the sides of the ship?

There are those who claim that Native Americans are the lost tribes of Israel.

Seriously? There was a movie called Sex O'Clock News that had a "story" about a lost tribe of Isreal called the Shapiraho.

For the purposes here I was thinking more along the lines of him being a 'tamed' Mexican bandit.

Will he challenge you to a dance contest?

I heard that Deforest Kelly preferred acting in Westerns. I can see why. He looks right at home in the cowboy hat. James Doohan looks like a good cowboy too.

Video removed. Don't post stuff like that on the BBS. The bare boobs, cartoon or not, will get us in trouble.
