What If They Didn't Show Up?

Bubbles McGee

Lieutenant Commander
I have often heard Trek fans discuss how the show might have been different had different actors been cast as the captain and crew of the Enterprise.

But what about all those great guest roles? How would things be different if other actors had played these roles? Here is a quick list I came up with. My only criterion was that the replacements had to be born in the same year as the actors who actually played these roles. Comment on these and propose some of your own if you like.

Khan: Jack Lord

T’Pau: Elisabeth Bergner

Bele: Horst Buchholz

Trelayne: Peter Lawford

Flint: John Forsythe

Romulan Commander (Enterprise Incident): Katherine Helmond

Kor: George Peppard

Sarek: Carroll O'Connor

I can understand placing some sort of limiting factor on the selections or else, the list of alternatives would grow insanely long rather quickly, but why make that factor be the same birth year? Just seems a bit, well, unconventional. After all, it's fairly well known that John Barrymore was slated to play Lazurus in "The Alternative Factor" and he was certainly far older than the actor who had to fill the spot at the last minute.

Sincerely,

Bill

John Drew Barrymore was six years younger than Robert Brown.

I was just about to say, no wonder they cut the romantic sub-plot between Lazarus and Lieutenant Masters! :D

Ohmygod, I'm picturing a mess of Sean Connery mushing his way through Khan's lines, and Ricardo Montalban wearing a kilt - and wondering which is more bizarre... :cardie:

I see what you mean. So, let's say the alternate had to have been a viable replacement. In other words, he/she could have been a little older or a little younger (let's say a margin of up to 5-10 years or so), fair enough?

That being said, how about Lorne Greene as Khan? I recently saw an old Alfred Hitchcock Presents where Greene played a heavy evil guy but who always maintained his calm and cool composure. I love the idea of Connery as Khan as well.

Um...Shouldn't that be Sean Khanery ;)
