What if the Equinox was Maquis?

picardo

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Who pronounced this speech? Chakotay or Ransom? Can you tell the difference?

"Under my command, we won't let almighty Federation principles get in the way of opportunities the way Janeway did when she destroyed the array that could have gotten us home. And we won't be wasting precious time stopping to investigate every insignificant anomaly that we come across. What we will do is use any means necessary to acquire technology that can shorten our journey. To hell with Starfleet regulations".

And in the follwing episode, they'd be as watered down and milktoast as the Voyager Maquis contingent were at the end of Caretaker.

^I meant do something interesting besides acting like your average Starfleet crewman a few episodes after renouncing their Maquisdom.

The most interesting thing done with them, is in season 6's Life Line, when an admiral asks her if she's had an recent "maquis problems" which is you read between the lines, means that Starfleet thinks that the Maquis is in chains and going to serve all their consecutive life sentences when they get back to earth space... And Janeway breaks down in terroror becuse she thinks of that terrorist scum as her children and family and she doesn't want bad things to hapepen to her family and children.

Can someone ask Robert Picardo if that was his line or added to the script in a rewrite?

I don't agree, there were actually troublesome Maquis, Suder and Seska the best examples, but they either died or were thrown out of Voyager, or both, and in the very first episodes B'Elanna could not be disciplined, there were also the Maquis who trained with Tuvok, so one could assume that such training appeased those Maquis.

Seska was a Cardassian spy, she was intentionally tying to destabilize the ship.

Suder was mental. You can't blame mental for being mental after they've found usable medication. Criminally insane is not the same as being criminal. Compare Janeway in Meld, to Janeway 5 years later in Repentance where she moved heaven and Earth to save some guy she didn't know after brain surgery cured him of being an asshole.

Tuvok's Night Class should have let him die. He was being a dick.

The Maquis may have been rebels but they were no fools, they knew that alone in the Delta quadrant they would not have survived a day, they had to collaborate with Starfleet even if that meant abandoning their cause.

There's also the fact that the Maquis issue is largely a Cardassia/Federation issue. With Cardassia out of the equation, the Maquis practically have no reason to exist, in other words, they have no cause in the Delta quadrant.

And then there's another, equally powerful factor, which is Janeway's/Chakotay personal relationship. Chakotay "liked" Janeway (and vice versa) to put it in other words there was chemistry between the two, reason why Chakotay was willing to follow federation principles and discipline his men.

But at the risk of sounding pompous, that's not the reason I created this thread, I'm interested in that Chakotay speech where he renounces Federation principles, you could as well substitute Chakotay, place Ransom and the speech would have been totally believable.

Any argument could be made to say that planting a Maquis flag on Ocampa might have worked. kazon technology shouldn't have been able to touch them. Janeway was just too much of a wussy to beam her enemies internal organs into space.

Meanwhile there was a thriving Delat Quation human civilizatrion they were all asked to join in the 37s.

They're farmers not explorers, so WTF?

Love that speech. It's a great reflection of the conflict that we should have seen more of throughout S1. The integration of the Maquis could have been a very interesting added dimension to the early storylines. Sad that it was glossed over after the first few episodes. We know Chakotay is a peaceful guy overall and his respect for Janeway made his personal transition smoother, along with the fact that he had to set an example for the rest of the Maquis. But there had to be a deeper and more prolonged conflict than we are allowed to see.

If the Maquis complained over the destruction of the Array, it'd make them hypocrites of the highest order. They started fighting because the Cardassians were trying to take away their homes and to them the Feds weren't helping as much as they should.

When Janeway destroyed the Array, it was to keep the Kazon from taking away the Ocampa's home.

So if they complained it would show that they were A-Okay selling out some innocent species for their own benefit, just like they were complaining the Feds did to them.

EDIT: And it's not like the Maquis had any idea how to get home any faster than the Feds did.

I've not seen "Worst Case Scenario" in some time, but that's not really Chakotay speaking, is it? It was Tuvok's hypothetical tactical program he initially constructed and later abandoned, only to be later discovered by Seska to be used for her own purposes. So what's coming out of "Chakotay's" mouth was put there by either Tuvok or Seska.

I don't know if we can say this how Chakotay actually feels.
