what if the Enterprise-D was destroyed during early season six?

Major successes...are Avatar, Star Wars, DarkKight to which no Trek Film has come remotely close to.

I think the thing you're missing is the fact that Star Trek is a 'bankable' project. Anytime the studio commits money to a Trek film... it knows that it will be receiving a return on its' investment. Even on Treks' darkest night (Enterprise and Star Trek: Nemesis), Paramount profited.

Now ask a studio executive which one he'd rather bankroll:

Make a Star Trek flick with a smallish investment and guaranteed $20 - $30 million dollar return.

-or-

Gamble $400 million on an 'unknown' film that general audiences may or may not take a liking too. Yeah it may hit it big... then again it may bankrupt your studio.

I'm part of the group that thinks if Star Trek is bankable and marketable as a brand name then it's a market that can be exploited like Star Wars or Jame Bond because any marketing team knows that a name in advertising is perhaps the most valuable commodity in the game and Trek has under used for a good...eh..13 years.

So the brand name is there but the executives have sat on their hands with a block of gold when they could have Billions.

It's one of my least favorites and it's number two on the worse designed ships in Trek.

1- Prometheus
2- Sovereign
3- NX Class
4- Akira
5- Norway

What if they built the Y-wing starfighter without any engines and pylons and glued the Jupiter 2 on the cockpit section and the Enterprise-A pylons and Enterprise-D nacelles and the body? That would make a good looking kitbashed starship for DS9 and TNG.

I would have loved for them to have had the Enterprise E the whole 7 seasons. That is my favorite starship

Thank you! The Galaxy-Class is one of the ugliest designs I've seen yet! The Sovereign-Class looks like a work of art, the Galaxy-Class looks like a plodding, awkward mess.

I think the galaxy has a boldness and strength none of the other ships, bar the nebula, had. It also has a pleasant aesthetic aerodynamic frame that doesn't take it to the absurd. The Sovereign is built to look like it's fast which is silly from a design point of view as any ship would be able to travel at same speed with the right compensated warp geometry. Fair enought it looks pleasant enough from a viewers point of view. However there's many ugly details of the sovereign which make it ugly compared to the galaxy. Plus I love the size of the galaxy, I'm glad we had it throughout the series on the small screen.

Sad as I am it was destroyed in Generations, it didn't look good on a big screen, the way it is filmed

scroll down to what? I've seen the galaxy in the first contact photoshop thread already. It doesn't change my opinion.

I don't think the model held up on a big screen. The detailing was not as good as the sovereign model. They were originally going to make a larger scale model of the deflector dish for first contact, but then when they viewed the footage from the model it held up very well on its own.
