What if Starfleet Battles evolved into TMP?

JamesSmith

Lieutenant Commander
What if Starfleet Battles evolved into the TMP era? (but only contains the elements of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but not Star Trek II-VI)

That was the point of "X" ships from 1980's Expansion #1, no? Up-teched cruisers as a hypothetical alternative to dreadnoughts and carriers/fighters.

It already has evolved into the movie era and beyond.

Check out Donald Miller's website.

I've also have some movie era (1-6) ships that I've been working on. It's kinda fun working up new ships for the game. Maybe I'll start a website one day and post them.

ADB doesn't have a license to go beyond TOS designs, more specifically the designs from the Starfleet Technical Manual of 1975. Also they seem to be a little closed minded about size 2 X-ships...even though we see them in Star Trek (Excelsior). They are going to do an X2 module (at least thats the rumor), but who knows what it's going to be. So all we have is unofficial customer produced stuff to go beyond ADB. I'm working up a Battlestar Galactica module myself to fully integrate with SFB.

Yup. TMP meets Battlestar Galactica. And featuring the Andromedan dehydrated destroyers! Just add water!

The only thing about SFC is that it isn't as rich a universe as SFB. You can do so much more in SFB. Although SFC does have a lot of pretty pictures.

It's called "Starfleet Command"
No Andromedans or Kizinti in Starfleet Command.

The Kzinti are in SC2, they've just been renamed to the Mirak. I mean... same ship designs (except sexier) and they're big talking cats.
But I want to play an Andromedon Intruder with full satellite ships.

The problem with SFB is that with all the expansions you practically needed a rules lawyer on hand.

Gotta get some practice in while waiting for the robots in the Cloud to get that Devastator built for you!

Which is why one could, instead, try to use Federation Commander as an introduction to the setting...

Sadly, in the groups I used to play with, that was never a problem.

I'm looking at the cover of Starfleet Command (never played it) online, and the Starfleet vessel in the upper left looks a lot like the USS Kelvin....

:vulcan: I just hope, the powers being, they will be wise enough to make another game of those for the computer as they were the most Successful Star Trek games which weren't necesarily dumbed down and had a high geek level, or in simple language were little miracles! (exclude SFC 3 which was horrid)

True. But then, the computer rarely matches the tabletop experience.

Although the Combat Mission adaptation of Advanced Squad Leader comes close.

I've only played the first and second versions of SFC. Wasn't there a version III or pirate scenario or something? Did they improve those versions of SFC?

There was "Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates" and SFC3. I hear SFC3 was a simplified version of SFC1 and SFC2, they changed the interface, you did not have to mange power and sheilds, thus focusing more on fighting. Here is a link to all versions of SFC, it called the dynaverse.net website.

Navigator NCC-2120 USS Entente
