What if 'Star Trek: Phase II' had actually been made?

Yes, now that The Expanse has ended, this is the best sci-fi show on TV, IMHO.

I had to toss up which I preferred the other day between The Expanse and For All Mankind. I love both, but For All Mankind won out in the thought experiment. It's a stately, glacial, intelligent show and more than once I've had tears in my eyes whilst watching it. It is gorgeous.

When they get around to the final season (I think the plan is five and I don't see why Apple wouldn't finish it), me and my wife will marathon the whole thing again. It's just astounding television. No two ways about it.

I felt a bit short changed by the last season of The Expanse.

re RDM's preimise. Makes no logical sense. T'would require too many unlikely things to coincidentally line up just as they did in reality even though everything that led up to those events would be different...
  • Roddenberry out
  • Harve Bennett brought in to produce
  • Harve and Jack B. Sowards come up with the same rejected scripts: The Omega System and The Genesis Project
  • Sam Peeples to be brought on to write "The New Star Trek"
  • Nick Meyer to be available and to build the same script from the pieces of the preceding ones
...despite Paramount going ahead with Barry Diller's 4th network idea.

Nah. Too unlikely.

What if one was to watch the TOS movies in about half an hour pieces instead of the whole movie, in some way that would be Phase II?
Six movies about 120 minutes each into smaller pieces, thats 720 minutes total and when that is sliced into about half an hour episodes that's 24 episodes, problem solved. =)
