What if someone told you they killed a pedophile, rapist etc?

Let's say it's a friend or co-worker. You also know he/she is telling the truth. Would you call the cops and report this person, or would you look the other way, since the victim basically deserved it, even though the friend-co-worker broke the law.

I would look the other way if I trusted the person. If I didn't trust the person I would call the cops, because if you don't trust the person, you can never be certain if the person who was killed, was guilty of the crime he was murdered for. Unless the guy can present some evidence to prove his claim.

I don't think I'd call the Police, but said person is obviously a grade A twat so I'd pretty much want nothing to do with them ever again.

I'm not keen on people just murdering other people, no matter what they believed their justification for it to be. If I truly believed someone killed someone, I'd alert the authorities to look into it. But the people I know are far more likely to just be joking about it.

I'd look the other way, tell him or her not to tell anybody else, then warn then not to do it again; we don't need vigilantism taking over.

Why would they be a twat for killing someone who is basically evil. Granted I don't beleive in good and evil in the simplifed way, that religion defines but there are some crimes were the word "evil" makes sense.

How would I feel if someone I knew murdered someone in cold blood? Does this really need an answer?

Because you'd have to be a pretty messed up individual to go out and kill another human being, regardless of motive.

Cops and military people have had to kill before in their line of work. Are we saying there is something inheritantly messed up with them? I tend to think all people are wired differently. Some might kill like Dexter on "Dexter" because they feel pleasure in the act. Other's might do it because they simply feel like it's justice. Also if we are talking about personal revenge, then that is something else. Would a feamle be a twat for killing the man who raped her? How about someone who kills a pedophile who harmed their kid?

It's not just anyone. The victim is a terrible human being and the person who does it is someone you trust.

If someone was stupid and thoughtless enough to tell me they had killed someone, I would think, "you stupid motherfucker, why the fuck are you making me an accessory after the fact?"

Then I would report them. I'm not their father confessor, and anyone that stupid is bound to get me in trouble somehow.

... since the victim basically deserved it...
Interesting... tell us all how that defense works out when you're charged with being an accessory after the fact. :techman:

This actually raises a intresting angle to the question. It's not just a ethical question but you also have pratical concerns with keeping this kind of secret. Basically your risking alot on your firend/co-worker's ability to cover his tracks. The thing is for me is I would want evidence and details to prove the victim was guilty, but at the same time I would be pulling myself in deeper to something I wouldn't want to be involved with.

What makes you think that someone else being able to claim a crime of passion as a defense would in any way insulate you, an accessory after the fact? :wtf:

If he killed a "pedophile" - I'd verify his claims, kick his ass, and turn him and whatever evidence there was over to the cops.

If he killed a rapist: - I might look the other way, I might not. It would be difficult to ignore as I wouldn't know that the man he killed was ACTUALLY a rapist, or if this guy just THOUGHT he was.

If he killed a murderer - I'd scratch my head and probably do nothing, again wondering if the person he killed was really guilty.

^Aren't you the guy who advocated killing 10 Muslim civilians in retaliation for every "honor" killing? How do you reconcile that?
