What if Seven had died instead of Janeway?

Would there have been the uproar we've seen if Seven had been the one killed in "Before Dishonor" and "Full Circle"?

Just curious.

It wouldn't be quite as big. The captain of any Trek series is the central figure, and killing that person off is quite a bold step.

What the heck are you talking about??? Both were alive in Endfame.

I haven't read Full Circle yet---in fact, I'm not entirely sure where in the continuity it takes place. However, in Before Dishonor, I was fully expecting Seven to die taking down the Borg megacube. I guess Peter David would never be so straightforward as that.....

Credit him with the art of misdirection ;)

I was expecting Janeway to be rescued so i suppose it's true that he can still shock us even after all this time!

And Full Circle Starts shortly after Spirit Walk and goes right through past destiny (2378-2381)

Okay, thanks.

I did think it was odd to "kill" Janeway in a novel bearing the TNG banner....

You could call it a victory for cross-continuity or a defeat for Voyager.

On the other hand Kirk was killed in a "TNG" Film so...

It's not without precedent

To be honest, I wouldn't have minded.

However, I wouldn't have seen the point, tho, like I didn't see the point of Janeway's death either.

I believe that many of you are referring to the crap novels that followed the end of the series?

I could understand it - The post-Nemesis novels were using Janeway as the regular contact between the Enterprise and Starfleet, so she'd pretty much become a supporting player in the TNG novels. Frankly, I was bothered more by Seven of Nine appearing alone on a cover for a TNG novel.

I can only imagine the havoc following if a central TNG character being killed in Voyager book...

Or Riker instead of giving him his own series! There's still time!!! In Unworthy he could pop home for a bit, go with Tuvok to say hello to Chakotay and Seven in San Francisco and then slip in the sonic shower.....

The TNG Relaunch line. So far as I've gotten---just finished Before Dishonor---the only one that qualifies as "crap" is Resistance.

I have no idea what the Voyager Relaunch is like these days, because I abandoned it for lack of quality some time ago.

So far neither one is living up to the standard set by the DS9 Relaunch...

Never ever thought I'd say this as a 'bring Janeway back from the dead immediately' type of fan, but if it's quality you're after then Full Circle is definitely worth a try, and you don't have to bother with the other relaunch books first particularly it would still make sense.

I may try the DS9 relaunch one day.

I think way more people would have been upset if Seven died.

I always thought in the Voyager popularity tier it was Seven/The Doctor in a tie for 1st, then Janeway in 2nd...then everyone else to varying degrees.

Seven was featured in most of the marketing and many of the storylines of the show but if you were to look at fan websites and fanfiction stories most of them (Voyager ones, that is) feature Janeway.

Actually, you're mistaken. IIRC, every popularity poll done in the Voyager forum has had Captain Janeway winning by a wide margin. She is, by far, the most popular character in the series.

:)
