Re: What if Joss Whedon did a TV show based on the early years of Batm
- Buffy S7; Greenwalt is now completely gone; doing Jake 2.0 somewhere else. Buffy S7 is the most horrifying pile of crap ever put on television; to the point where at times I had to keep myself from literally throwing up.
Joss was focusing a lot on Firefly at that point. I'm not actually sure who was running things over at Buffy during that time. Apparently no one....
Nope. When Joss Whedon was still focusing on Firefly, and Marti Noxious was away on maternity leave, we actually got a pretty audacious start of the season. A family vipe, mother/father, between Buffy/Xander and Dawn as daughter; very much in line with what Sarah was half-promised was going to happen: Buffy and Xander finally getting together. We have a very returning to where it all started theme, as well as the setup of a dark nasty mysterious evil. And we have a Spike that is genuinely disgusted with himself and his actions and even says so directly - well, that is before James Marsters complained about his character not looking good enough and Joss rewrote his scene(s).
Then Joss butted in giving Marti direction as she returned, Firefly got cancelled, and Joss fully returned - and it all went down the drain.
- Angel S5; the influence of Greenwalt is completely gone; he plotted a lot of S4 before he left. Angel S5 is setup entirely without him. And Angel S5? Buffy S7 redux. Most notably in the treatment of "ordinary" human characters.
I don't really see any similarity between Angel 5 and Buffy 7.
Well, let's see:
Buffy S7 versus normal humans; disgusting sycophants who crave having power, having it "so hard being so close to the spotlight but never being able to step in it", also useless bunch fucks who wouldn't know how to help, if it hit them in the ass.
Buffy S7 versus demons, demon animated corpses, demon-enhanced people with power: Perfect, fantastic, can do no wrong, are truly superior to non-powered humans, are perfectly justified in considering non-powered humans - even though they saved the powered's ass over and over again - less then they are, and can be treated with disdain and fake smiles. And a direct extenstion; Spike takes over the show, as opposed to the used-to-be genuine heroes we've been following the 6 seasons prior.
Angel S5 versus normal humans; disgusting sycophants who crave having power, unable to deal with not being in the spotlight so they make deals with the devil to enhance their intelligence, get access to cutting edge labs. Need to be killed of "because their story is over", or just killed of to bring in the cool power heaving demonic god.
Angel S5 versus demons and assorted powered beings: so ffing cool, you can have them destroy the normal humans soul and still have the demon look cool, their deals are make their sons happy - and as a direct extension, Spike takes over the show, as opposed to the used-to-be genuine heroes we followed 4 seasons prior.
