What if Jeffrey Combs was guest star on TNG

TheVortaKeevan

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Jeffrey Combs has played several alien characters in three Star Trek Series in the 1990s and in the early 2000s. What aliens character or characters do you think Jeffrey Combs could of play in Star Trek The Next Generation?

Well, he was up for the role of Will Riker at some point, but I'm glad he didn't do that. Riker IS Frakes. :vulcan:

That being said, I think Combs would have made a great Romulan commander. Not to replace Tomalak, who was seven shades of awesome; just one of the other ones.

Jeffrey Combs would have been the one to make the Romulans less boring. I'm not very fond of them, but Combs would have spiced things up a bit.

Combs is awesome. He even managed to make stuff like Perversions of Science and the 2002 Twilight Zone bearable.

Side note: Back when the 9/11 attacks happened, reportedly there was a passenger on one of the planes named Jeffrey Coombs (note the spelling). Somehow this mutated into a rumor that it was Combs who was killed, and he had to take to the 'net and reassure fans that he was in fact still alive!

Weyoun: "Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated". :guffaw:

(Even Keevan is alive as we can see....)

I can see him as a scheming Vorta-like Starfleet Admiral. Beats the admiral 'o the week.

Yes I could see him playing as a Romulan Commander or maybe an Agent of the Tal Shiar.

That for sure! I think he could of been perfect for the role of that alien character that slowed his vital signs so it would seem he appeared dead. I remember it took two shots to kill him with the phaser. The first shot made a perfect hole in his torso, but he was still standing and functioning fine to try again to attack Dr, Crusher.

A lot of people say the same about Bujold as Janeway, but of course "Janeway WAS Mulgrew", 'cause that's who we got to watch for 7 years.

Combs as Riker would have been different, for sure. We would have loved or hated the character for different reasons, but after 7 seasons and 4 movies it would've been "Riker IS Combs".

We would never have discussed why Riker looks the opposite way when turning a corner, or how he puts one foot up on the console next to Data, because those were "Frakes things".

Combs would have made a good Gowron, but Robert O'Reilly probably clinched the audition with his eye trick.

I could see him playing an obsessive character like Bruce Maddox. It would've added another quality aspect to that episode. I never cared for that actor much

His being a very talented actor, it is hard to narrow the field to the type of guest he could have played.

But this does bring another thought to mind: It's a shame that the TNG crew didn't get to operate more in the rich universe of characters/characterizations created in DS9.... when I think of Combs, I think of Weyoun. How great would have been to have Picard dealing directly with that character?

We do get a chance to see Picard dealing with various Cardassians over the final years of the series, and we even get a taste of Picard vs. Dukat (with Marc Alaimo playing a somewhat similar character in "The Wounded"), and of course, "Tom" Riker dealing with the DS9 crew in "Defiant." All of these interactions just whet the appetite for the opportunities that were missed/not possible....

Has anyone seen him in anything else but ST? Or heard his voice work in various animated series'?

He's done a lot of work, but I can't say I've ever seen him in anything else, but wonder how good he is in other roles.

Jeffery Combs-IMDB

Has anyone seen him as Herbert West in Reanimator?

I don't. That's not my cup of tea. I have seen Frighteners. It's neither Jeffrey Combs nor Michael J. Fox's best role.

Weyoun on the one hand, Marty McFly on the other hand are hard to top.

I can see Marty travelling to the future, meeting Weyoun. Weyoun's interest of his delorean would be piqued.

Yeah I've seen Re-Animator only once. I didn't really care for it. Have you seen the remake of House On Haunted Hill and it's sequel? I like the first one, I didn't really like the sequel.

No. And I have only seen him once as Shran. I'm not an ENT fan, but Shran would be a reason to become one. ;)

Manny Coto once said that Shran would have joined the NX-01's crew if ENT had made it to a fifth season. I wonder what he would have done there. Leader of the MACO troops, maybe?

Combs is at his best when he is in a role where he can be devious, so I am not sure I would have liked him as Riker, but I KNOW I would have loved him as a Romulan, Klingon, or even one of the Q continuum.

Jeffrey Combs would have been great as Laxanna Troi.

I sincerely believe he could have pulled off the role.
