What if Hoshi was a Lesbian?

They did hit on sexual orientation briefly in DS9 Rejoined, During that episode only one person said anything about their gender. Everyone else seemed pretty accepting of it, as it was not a big deal other than the whole re association thing. Granted it was two Trill. But the human characters did not seem to have a problem with it, minus Miles.

If it existed and was accepted in the DS9 era, then you know it existed in the ENT era, but may not have been accepted.

Well thats the rub. There's lots of evidence other than reason and the fall of religion and the complete collapse of human society and human law after WWIII, that it all became Mad Max's Cursed earth, to say that anyone can stick their whonanny into what ever shapped whatsydazeit they felt like and there was no longer a righteous or legal force to say what was wrong and right any more... But the real world impacts on Star Trek, and DS9 10 years earlier was produced by people just a little more daring than Berman and Braga busy running Enterprise into the coral, who were willing to stick it to the network to make a format just a little more entertaining and contraversial.

However the "relative" financial faliure of DS9 is probably what handicapped Voyager and then Enterprise into being less than as free wheeling as they might be wont to in as far as out of the box story telling might go... Not that Homosexuality has been a subject worth being controversial for 30 years or more since the lynchings became less organized by public officials.

Roddenberry said that everyone except Kirk was bisexual in the TMP novelization. I totally believe him.

...pointy-earred women...in the decontamination room...after a long slow rubdown session...during which Hoshi demonstrates her multi-lingual abilities...

Are we sure that dude on Risa didn't have something like a vagina as well as something like a penis? Aliens are just odd.

I think I recently read somewhere that Gene Roddenberry had said that he's intended to have gay characters by the time of DS9. By that time he'd checked out and his successors chickened out. Very sad. On both counts.

What did we get, then? One Trill make out session (not too bad) with Dax and her former wife. They could do that, beacuse it's just different with Trills. And because it was a one episode thing.

A totally overdone mirror universe bisexual intendant Kira. She just wanted to be loved by everyone, because her own narcissism wasn't sufficient for her.

And another mirror character: Ezri. Two little hints about her liking women.

But no gay male, of course! :o
Girls being nice to each other are plain cute. But men are too aggressive in their sexuality, make them two men and it's disgusting. At least that still seems to be the common perception. :(

Well, they can't deny us what we want, entirely. At least they created gorgeous sets of characters and we can do with them what we want in our minds. :D
I am a great fan of slash fiction. From Kirk/Spock/McCoy to Bashir/Garak to Archer/Tucker, I love those stories. I haven't come around to femslash yet, but that's only a question of time. And I am not even halfway through Enterprise (watching the show, I mean), so a lot of things could still happen. I think, Hoshi and T'Pol would make a great couple! But then I want my Archer/Tucker ship as well, those two are currently the hottest couple for me out of my favorites (not my favorite, though).

If she was a lesbian, it might have made her character more interesting.

A little bit more than the cardboard cut-out she was.

Really? I think it would have made her duller. At the moment we don't care about her need to sleep with men. It's absolutely unimportant so we want to know what happens in the other %99 of her life. make her a lesbian and we will start ignoring that %99.

It might have made her character more interesting if they actually spent time developing her character. Instead, she was just the girl with the earpiece.

I currently play Hoshi in a role-playing game and I'm finding that there is less information about her in canon than my other character from another fandom with only four seasons on TV. I'm also finding new ways of fleshing out Hoshi's character through her relationships with her parents as well as her relationships with her peers.

Normally I would agree, other than the fact that most of the characters on ENT were so poorly written with little development, that they didn't have much going on in their lives anyway.

No they wouldn't.

It would come off as a cheap stunt and talk down to the audience.

Does any one know if there was a spike in the ratings when Dax mad out with the Borg Queen?

While I wish I could say it would be a routine thing it would probably have been media pulling and we'd probably get the PSAs after the episodes like we got with BSG Razor on Saturday evening. It shouldn't matter though...

I know the lesbian on Razor you're talking about, but what I really found hilarious was the communications/operations bridge officer on Pegasus also called Hoshi. yes, he was in most of season three, but I wasn't paying attention on my first viewing.

Does anyone who wasn't going to watch BSG Razor, now going to watch it because there's a lesbian in it?

There is no lesbian in 22th century. They must have discover a unlesbian pill by then
