Oh my god, how did you know? I can't stop smelling mustard everywhere I go.What if you had a dream about a cheeseburger eating YOU...
You see, CaptainJordan, after we dissect your not-Enterprise for every precious bit of information, I intend to display its broken hull in the center of the Romulan capitol as a symbol of our victory. It will inspire our armies for generations to come, and serve as a warning to any other traitor who would create ripples of disloyalty. What if a Constitution-class starship, not the Enterprise, lost her engineering section near the Romulan neutral zone when it was destroyed by a Romulan bird-of-prey?
That made me laugh. Thanks for the sensible chuckle.
To give you a serious answer, if the engineering section were able to extend its warp field around the separating saucer section before being destroyed the saucer could "coast" at warp speed toward the nearest Federation outpost or planet like a giant lifeboat. It couldn't do any fancy maneuvering or anything though or risk breaking the warp field bubble, so they'd be very vulnerable to any enemy vessels pursuing at warp. What if a Constitution-class starship, not the Enterprise, lost her engineering section near the Romulan neutral zone when it was destroyed by a Romulan bird-of-prey?
