What if 30ish years ago Henry Spencer and Harry Morgan swapped Sons?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Dexter vs Psych.

Savvy?

I was watching Psych a couple weeks back and they spent the whole episode threatening Shawn that they were going to wire him up to a lie detector and find out his secrets... And they did, AND HE BEAT IT!!! It is then that we flashed back to the 80s and we saw Henry teaching his kid how to defeat a polygraph because his kid was a muppet who would be ultimately doomed without this all too basic life skill.

Both Fathers trained their kids to survive their own personalities.

Would Dexter and Shawn have grown up into markedly different men with these different fathers?

Lassie would be in a meatlocker.

Guy - I have never seen Dexter, so I cannot accurately ponder your question. However, since you are talking about personality traits of the main characters, I will mention something I have noticed about Psych.

As far as I can tell, there are two Shawn characters featured in the series. Pilot Shawn and Goofy Shawn.

Pilot Shawn is cocky, intelligent, rebellious, mildly arrogant, witty, sly, cunning and a probable ladies man, who also is a marksman and a motorcycle rider.

Whereas Goofy Shawn is juvenile, immature, silly, childish, snarky, inexperienced with women and motorcycles, lacking of marksmanship skills and his rebellious side has been modeled after that of a spoiled teenager.

I enjoy the show and all the characters as it/they exist now. But I cannot help but wonder how things would be different if pilot Shawn stayed at the helm. Any speculation as to the motivation to change the character?

The writers need to watch it with Sean. He went from funny/goofy to funny/ass a few to many times over the last half season.
