What I hate about the trailer

The one where he gets all the details wrong? or is that the other thread where he got the details wrong? have I got the details wrong?

ok. You can all go fuck yourselves. I quit. Nice little club you've got here. Fuck you.

Oh, unwad yer panties. You're just walking into a forum filled with posters who've already heard these complaints from extremely persistent folks who are not generally as articulate as you.

Check out the "Am I the only one who didn't like the trailer?" thread or the "No, you're not the only one scared by this trailer" thread (both have dropped to page 2 by now). You're not alone.

Well, unlike that post, Beaker didn't post a rambling essay on the subject, so even though his opinions aren't that sunny, this post was less of a rant and more of a laundry list. I found that other thread blatently insulting.

What I don't like about the trailer is that it's too short. It needs to be about two hours long for me to properly evaluate whether the movie is any good or not.

I like the cut of your jib - Can I suggest that it might also be useful to have access to a large dark room? And the presence of others ?

And both those threads and the points that those posters tried to make i found nonesensical, come on people its a movie, i'm not trying to insult nobody's passion for the orginal series, but come on, whining about why the ship isn't build in space, and why Spocks voice is whiny seems stupid to me .

Its a movie, a highly promising one, this movie is trying to revive Star Trek, get people interested in Star Trek again, wake up people .
I think all you who aren't satisfied by this teaser should reconsider, if you are true fans and love Star Trek, accept change, its for the better in my opinion .

Keep the Trekkies out of the ticket line if you want to attract the paying masses.

I'm going to make a point of asking every other person in line "Excuuuuse me, but don't you think it's dumb they built it on the ground?" just to see how many people I can scare away. :p

What I hate about the trailer...

-From what I've seen, the new Kirk doesn't seem like Kirk at all. The "Why don't you stop me." Seems really off for the character. Hiding under the bed? Doesn't seem right. I understand he's probably not yet a Captain in those scenes but it seems he just has a general lack of honor, dignity and respect for others.

-And of course, Spock doesn't seem like Spock either. Sure they have to show the Vulcan/Human conflict within him, but they don't have to show him losing control.

Now you need to unwad yer panties. It's just someone expressing an opinion. And, as several responses to that thread, including mine, demonstrated - people are worried and have some good reasons for being worried. We've seen what was once a well-written, interesting series of science fiction television, the benchmark in fact, of SF tv, devolve into pablum. This fictional universe has had an incredibly long life due to the continuing interest and considerable creativity of the fanbase, which during the 1970s really worked the material through fanzines and conventions where they had conversations with the creators, into the most profitable franchise in history. This revival raises hope that some of that fun and creativity could occur again, which we would obviously all like to see happen. The trailer is pandering (not that this is necessarily a bad thing) and some folks would like to express their concerns that rather than new life being breathed into a beloved idea, we might instead get more shallow crap. It's only fair that they should be able to talk about that concern here without being beaten about the head by those who (apparently) want a uniformly positive response.

They're both very young in this movie, I assume. Plenty of time for them to grow up and mature.

It's the "true fans think this: what I think" nonsense I dislike. It's fine to not like something, but all the crap about what Trek needs to be in order to not bomb at the box office stuff that sometime gets spewed. No thanks.

I would say its effective at its job, get peoples attention and give them a bit of thrill. If that's "pandering" give me MORE. A trailer isn't a place that can afford to be arch or deep since its got only a few seconds to hold peoples attention.

Not that I think "arch" or "deep" is what's gonna save the franchise. When Trek tries this it always falls flat on its face.

I hear you and have argued with several people over the "true fans" thing. I'm not saying that some folks didn't get a mite... weird in their objections, but it's kinda turning into a pile-on when someone raises complaints. That's no fun.

People have been 'raising complaints' long before this trailer premiered and many who do so seem to want to complain because they simply want to complain and or have a grudge with the writers and or producers of this film. That to is getting stale.

Agreed, which is why I defended beaker in this case. He wasn't being unreasonable. I'm also a little tired of the constant CRA bashing. I disagree with most of what he says in this forum but jeeze!

Well, I can see a few people here not on their best behavior, but that really can't be called anything but a flame. So warned.

There have been some good points made, but due to a rather messy derail over who's at fault for what, when and where, I'm going to close this and suggest anyone wanting to discuss the Daily Mail article take it over to this thread:

http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=74179

Or not. It doesn't seem to be a very good article.
