What I hate about the trailer

A beaker full of death

Vice Admiral

This trailer:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...-film-love-scenes-motorbikes-hunky-stars.html

-The car and motorcycle. Nothing says futuristic like a 1960s sportscar barrelling down the freeway with police sirens blaring. Ditto the Kawasaki.

- The twerpy Kirk kid. Shades of Little Annikin. And he can't pronounce "Tiberius."

-The whole Kirk as daredevil thing. He wasn't. Nor was he a James Dean wannabe badass rebel without a clue.

-The Kirk as messiah thing. "A hard time finding your place in this world..." Utter nonsense.

- Enterprise being built on Earth, rather than space.

- The cluster space battle. Same as modern TV Trek. Massive starships right up each other's ass, zooming around like racecars.

- The bridge. Once again, there seems to be no shape to it. Just some big white oblong space. A wide staircase. Must be a redress of Voyager.

-Quinto's whiney little voice is jarring when one expects Nimoy's deep baritone.

- The huge viewscreen ("Windshield," as Berman always thought of it).

- That's supposed to be Scotty??

- "Buckle up" - with a high five, no less.

I guess they're trying to be shocking. They succeeded.

I must agree about the "Buckle up!" part. Please make them actually buckle something up, because I hate that gung-ho dialog (like Data's "Saddle up...lock and load!") or when people say "We got company!" when the bad guys show up. ugh.

The one where he gets all the details wrong? or is that the other thread where he got the details wrong? have I got the details wrong?

ok. You can all go fuck yourselves. I quit. Nice little club you've got here. Fuck you.

I thought Kirk was always something of a daredevil? I mean, he did fly starships into the maws of giant space guns and scaled mountains with his bare hands.

If Generations had kept the orbital skydiving scene, this would be a non-issue.

Kirk = Daredevil seems perfectly in character just for what you've cited. And yeah I now miss that skydiving scene.

I like it. Trek Earth has always had a certain quaintness mixed with it's tech. In "The Cage" we see an awesome city in the background - and he has a horse. In DS9, they had all the gadgets in SF, but there were also horses in the streets on New Orleans. In the shots with the car/bike there are huge buildings in the background - the new mixed with the quaint. Kirk is a country boy, what do you expect?

That line is a bit awkward, but it's just a flashback scene probably. Not like in TPM when we had to deal with the kid all the way through.

-The whole Kirk as daredevil thing. He wasn't. Nor was he a James Dean wannabe badass rebel without a clue.

Eh, people change over the course of their lifetime. I think a big part of this movie will be Kirk's journey to becoming the Captain we all know. He wasn't that captain from the cradle.

- Enterprise being built on Earth, rather than space.
Looks beautiful, imo.

- The cluster space battle. Same as modern TV Trek. Massive starships right up each other's ass, zooming around like racecars.
The ships themselves seem to move fine. Cluster battles are pretty much par for the course, I don't mind it. It's a drama thing.

- The bridge. Once again, there seems to be no shape to it. Just some big white oblong space. A wide staircase. Must be a redress of Voyager.
Strange, but not as bad as I first thought. The set designer is a fan of little round lights though. The bridge and corridors are covered in those damn things.

-Quinto's whiney little voice is jarring when one expects Nimoy's deep baritone.
Sounded fine to me.

- The huge viewscreen ("Windshield," as Berman always thought of it).
Looks cool, I think. It gives a better view, so that's a good thing, imo.

- That's supposed to be Scotty??
Yes, the guy who sounds like Sam from Lord of the Rings. He was a bit disappointing.

- "Buckle up" - with a high five, no less.
That's wrong, I have a screencap from this scene, he clearly puts his hand on McCoy's shoulder.

I guess they're trying to be shocking. They succeeded.
I've certainly taken notice!

I'm really annoyed with the whole "pronouncing Tiberius" nitpick that people have been having.

The little kid was driving a car really fast. He jumped out of the speeding car as it was going over a cliff. I would assume he's a little winded. Not to mention that his first name ends with an "S," so it would be very easy for the "T" sound to get lost a little bit.

Oh, that trailer!

We already have a whole forum on this topic.

I agree, come on guys, is it REALLY necessary take shots at people who don't like the movie trailer? There's nothing wrong with people having different opinions as long as we aren't all assholes towards eachother.

Oh, unwad yer panties. You're just walking into a forum filled with posters who've already heard these complaints from extremely persistent folks who are not generally as articulate as you.

Check out the "Am I the only one who didn't like the trailer?" thread or the "No, you're not the only one scared by this trailer" thread (both have dropped to page 2 by now). You're not alone.
