What has Andrew Robinson (Garak) been up to in the last decade or so? His last acting credit listed on IMDB was from 2005. I wasn't sure if he left acting or is doing plays (instead of TV / film).

I often wonder what actors do to make a living when they have large gaps like that. I don't believe he's working at a car dealership or anything (and there are actors I would expect that of). Maybe he's doing theater.

You know, I could totally see him doing that! Garak always seemed to have that "watch and learn" thing going on with Bashir. Cheers :-)
Whatever he's doing, I do wish he would write another Star Trek book. His first, "A Stitch in Time", was an excellent read.
I still haven't read that book!

This! A hundred times this! "A Stitch in Time" is easily my favorite DS9 book, and 4th on my favorite Trek books list.
FWIW I think it makes perfect canonical sense for Garak to be given a highly visible position of power on Cardassia after the war.
Just because the Federation is the only major power not inclined to come in and conquer them immediately in their highly vulnerable state, and he's the most popular Cardassian in the Federation by a wide margin.

That all implies the Federation has any say in who gets to govern Cardassia. And that's hardly the Federation's style, or at least it shouldn't be.
Plus Garak never wanted the job - he hates the limelight, and prefers to work behind the scenes. Which is why it took another 10 years almost (of story time) for him to reach that position, and even then it was mostly out of fear of what somebody else would do with the position.
In fact, it's curious that three major space-faring civilizations are now led by people who used to live and work on DS9. Martok on Qo'Nos, Rom on Ferenginar, Garak on Cardassia. It's not hard to see how someone ill-disposed towards the Federation could read that as exactly what you describe - the Federation deliberately placing their 'favourite' candidates on the thrones of rival empires to make sure they are politically allied with them.
For those who are not aware, Andrew did write a sequel to A Stitch in Time - a short story titled "The Calling" which appears in the DS9 anthology Prophecy and Change.

I think you misread my post.
Garak would not be placed in a position of power by the Federation. Garak would be placed in a position of power by Cardassians who see the Federation as the only thing preventing the Klingons and Romulans from going 'Fall of Centauri Prime' on their asses.

Oh wow, I did not know he did write a sequel to a "stitch in time". Honestly, from reading the synopsis though, I think I will keep with ASIT. It seems less depressing, though the un-resolved love story from that book is something that kind of bothers me.
