What happened to the AVATAR fans wanting to live as NAVI cult in FL.?

Mutara Nebula 1967

Seems I remebmer hearing in the aftermath of the movie some fans were either despondant that no Pandora exists or were so entrhalled and entranced by Pandora and the Navi they were going to set up a compound in Florida and follow the practice of the NAVI and "mother".

Anyone know if this ever got off the ground?

Probably not. They probably got distracted when Avatar was released to Blu-ray and have been watching the discs over and over repeatedly since then.

They probably couldn't figure out the directions out of their parents' basements.

Or that it might actually suck having to hunt for your food. Or wear blue paint all the time.

Re: What happened to the AVATAR fans wanting to live as NAVI cult in F

That was probably just some bored CNN reporter lackey wildly interpreting a joking message board comment and running with it, thus making shit up. The infotainment media does this all the time, with the NYT Styles section one of the worst offenders; Slate often calls them out for it.

BTW, I find it a little distressing that some posters here seem ready to take those original statements (to which this post doesn't even link) at face value, and take a crap all over allegedly obsessed fans rather than seriously question the validity of the original junk reportage.

Well, if the report is true, I think they're out of their tree.

Florida's lack of glowing alien plant and animal life probably but an end to the idea.

Re: What happened to the AVATAR fans wanting to live as NAVI cult in F

I'm sure there were a few who actually went through with it. There's just enough nutters out there to do something like this. Fortunately there's very few of them.

Do not make fun of us, we will one day rule the world!

You're distressed that nerds are making fun of other nerds? Distressed? Really?

As as far as questioning the validity of the original report? Do you see how seriously people take shit on THIS site? Whether or not things are canon.... How much Lucas raped their childhood....

I totally believe that there is some idiot out there that totally wants to make the Na'vi lifestyle real.

I hope you didn't think I was making this up. I really heard this way back then but heck I can't remember where let alone a link to it but I believe it.

Re: What happened to the AVATAR fans wanting to live as NAVI cult in F

Anybody got a link to the original claim?

Not sure why I care, but...

it appears to originate from a Daily Fa... Daily Mail story. In particular it indicates something from one of the Avatar fan forums, and I tracked that down here. Also for the lulz decided to look at the forum above it and found this.

So... make of it what you will... seems harmless to me.

Also: the first hit for "Avatar Navi cult" is this thread.

No, I'm distressed at nerds taking a stupid infotainment news story at face value, and assuming the very worst about other nerds in the context of their outra-Cloud lives.

I hope you didn't think I was making this up.
No, I accused those who "reported" the claim to be making shit up. ;)

It's like throwing stones from a glass house. Ridiculous and hypocritical when the same people that laugh at Avatards were probably crying how Abrams is the Anti-Christ or Bermaga destroyed Trek.
