What happened to Al Schuster?

I was reading about the early Trek conventions and was just curious what became of Schuster after the 70s/early 80s?

No idea who he is. I googled him and found nothing after 1976.

He’s One of the founding memebers of the Committee that started the conventions. He was on Tom Snyder with De Kelley, Doohan, Koenig and Ellison.

What happened to Al Schuster's office?

I found one Google cached online source (an old Sotheby's auction for a letter from Mr. Albert Schuster to Neil Armstrong asking him to appear at a convention in 1975) that places Schuster's office at 280 Kipp St in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Per this Yelp listing, that is now operated by Perfectly Balanced, an accounting firm opened in 2014.

Am I getting old? No one here knows who Schuster is? I guess the early years of Trek convention history are being buried by the sands of time…along with Roddenberry’s office.

Is it possible you mean Hal Schuster? Hal had a long and prolific career publishing unauthorized Star Trek magazines and books, through his companies Psi Phi Movie Press, Pop Cult, Inc., Pioneer Books, Schuster and Schuster, etc.

ETA: Fanlore explicitly states Al and Hal are not the same person. Sorry! It appears Al dropped off the map after the 1976 Star Trektennial convention.

I suspect many trekkies back then still wouldn't have known who he was. Many trekkies don't go to the conventions, and many who went probably didn't really pay attention to who was running it, all that.

I suppose you’re right. My dad is still a huge fan and he saw the show while he was in high school in the 60s during its original run and he has no idea who Bob Justman, Herb Solow or Rick Berman are, let alone Al Shuster.

Anyway, I’m curious because some of the Committee members are kind of out there (or have been reported as deceased), but I was curious about what ever became of Shuster who I believe was the first promoter to book Shatner for a convention and he came on The Tomorrow Show with the guys i mentioned above.
