I can't believe Paramount/Viacom/CBS didn't run with this - definitely a way to keep televised Trek going during the gap between Enterprise's end and the new film.

I think the story was that Paramount/whoever didn't have any plans to bring back Trek in any form, until JJ said "I want to do Trek."

If the Clone Wars series is a success, then a Trek animated series won't be too far behind. Thus, continuing a trend going back to TMP.
