What film WOULD you LOVE to see a remake/reboot of?

I'm waiting for the new Back to the Future trilogy starting in 2015. Part I goes back to 1985. And maybe by 2045 we'll finally get our flying cars!

To understand Godzilla, you have to understand when it was made and where. 1954, Japan, just nine years after two nuclear bombs were dropped on two major cities.

Godzilla was always an allegory for nuclear weapons, the power of nature perverted by man, the horror of it, the pure unstoppable destructive force of it. Godzilla was the nuclear bomb given form, by people who were all too aware of its power.

The Soviets had just developed nuclear bombs of their own in 1949 and an Arms race was inevitable. The fears of this and the trauma of the bombings were all exemplified in the film. In the end, though Serizawa builds an even deadlier bomb to slay Godzilla, the personification of nuclear weapons, he chooses to die rather than risk his weapon sparking an arms race in a statement against WMD proliferation and for scientific responsibility.

Later incarnations of Godzilla don't represent The Bomb directly like the original did, but rather nature's rage against the bomb, and nuclear irresponsibility in general.
All of them are punishment for mankind's hubris, spawned from it directly.

Stripping Godzilla of it's nuclear and environmental allegories pretty well destroys the concept. Stripping Godzilla of its near invincibility does even worse.

Here's my list that I would love to see remake/reboot. Only few things that has entered my minds of all:

Star Wars
Terminator
Lost in Space

They deserve to have reboot in the future to make it right. I can see Star Wars gets reboot without George Lucas in it, because it would interesting us to acknowledge the balance of storyline that we never heard of before. I enjoyed Star Wars, but the story's getting all over again and again! Tired of hearing the same story, I'd like to hear new story of star wars. Last I checked, Jedi race was extinct, only one jedi left in the star wars universe. That I would like to hear the story!

Lost in Space was worst film ever made! That's the reason why I never pick the movie up to shelf my collection. They better do this remake!!

we could have flying car already before 2045. I found the site that they were talking about flying cars, it has become reality at last, but will have to deal with how to do right way to handle the flying car. Perhaps, we finally can have the true remake of back to the future trilogy starting that year of 2045. It's worth a shot to go!

McTiegue's probably going to direct Magneto, AFAIK, which would mean he wouldn't be available
He's said to be in talks regarding both films, whether he actually signs up for either of them remains to be seen.

I thought David Goyer was directing that one? Regardless, I'd much prefer McTiegue over Goyer. I'm beginning to lump Goyer in the same category of industrialist hack as Michael Bay and Brett Ratner.

I always thought Godzilla was A-sexual, that's how there were children.

And besides, the Godzilla movie completely and utterly sucked ass. I was nine when I watched it for the first time, and from nine years old I've wanted to write movies in dispise of Godzilla.
:guffaw:

You know, prior to The Incredible Hulk, I was real interested in seeing Edward Norton as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, but I guess that's out-of-the-question now. Honestly, I think Norton attached to anything is kind of a neat idea. So yeah, I'd like to see a Daredevil do-over, since I thought the theatrical version was decent at best (the Director's Cut is a considerable improvement). I think Mark Walhberg could be interesting as the Man Without Fear.

I'd also like to see a reboot of Superman, and this is coming from an erudite fan and admirer of Bryan Singer's much maligned Superman Returns. I honestly think too much time has passed now to do a sequel, since it appears Warner Bros. is back to square one with absolutely no idea what to do with the franchise, apparent by the clear lack of development so far (Jeff Robinov's announcement about making Superman a "darker" character doesn't qualify in my opinion as "development").

I'd love a remake of Fahrenheit 451, the long-rumored one that Frank Darabount was going to direct starring Tom Hanks, that would be considerably closer to the book.

I'd like to see a big-budgeted, epic-scale remake of DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, too.

I know the Brits are doing another tv miniseries version, but that doesn't mean we can't have a feature film as well. (Heck, they're making a PRIMEVAL movie!)

Yes. I'm sick of people re-making things that were good in the first place. This is the only thing I've ever heard of being re-made that really needed and deserved a re-make. I honestly think Farenheit 451 is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Horrible acting, horrible music, and horrible special effects. I haven't read the book, but from watching the movie, I could tell that there was a great story there...a 1984-like parable about the danger of censorship in society.

I can't believe a director as talented as Truffaut could take what seemed liked an excellent story and make such an inept movie from it...the only explanation I can imagine is he just wasn't as comfortable doing a movie in English as he was making those great French films he'd done previously. This is a story begging for a movie that can do it justice and replace that awful 'English language movie with all the worst excesses of French new wave' debacle that was the first one, and I believe Darabont could be the one to pull that off.

IIRC, Norton was offered the role first time around and declined so it's unlikely he'd do it again, given that he's already in the Marvel Universe as Dr Banner.

Some speculation here that DD will be re-booted, but it seems awfully flimsy to me:

I'll be more specific in my desire to remake Highlander. The first movie pwns. But it's very 80's. And very dated. The Highlander brand(calling it a "franchise" is being way too kind to it) has been in such a free fall of crap for decades I doubt even a good remake could redeem it. That being said I love the first movie. The only problem with it? Christopher Lambert. Awful actor who cannot do a Scottish or American accent(AHHHGGG AHHHMMM CONNNAAARRR MAAACLAAAD OF DA CLANNNN MAAACLAAAD) to save his life. Granted, neither could Adrain Pual. My solution? Get a good actor who can. Ewan MacGreggor would be awesome as Conner.

This I would love to see!:techman: Plus, if they can make TREK popular again, I'm sure the right people can make highlander popular again too! *Think Queen would do the theme again?*

My guess is that they'd either remix it or have some new Rock Opera band like Nightwish, Evenescence, or My Chemical Romance. Of course, none of those bands are as awesome as Queen.

I wonder how one would do Ramirez. It's hard to top Connery, who's just awesome at anything. I didn't matter that he was aN Egyptian-Spaniard. Or rather, "Shpanyard".

Aren't they already working on a Highlander remake?

I'd suggest Oded Fehr for Ramirez if he were about ten years older. Right now he's probably just a bit too young.

I think Fehr is old enough that he has the gravitas to pull it off.

But while we can all agree that Christopher Lambert is clearly not a Scotsman, I do think that he brings an inherent awesomeness to the part that elevates all 4 of his Highlander movies (5 if you count his late 1990s version of Beowulf where he's basically playing Connor MacLeod with different hair).

Goyer's apparently off the project and they're looking for a replacement.

A remake of Highlander could be great, but if it's remade (whether as a film or as a TV series) it needs to be designed to tell a finite story that concludes once "the one" has emerged victorious. The worst thing about the sequels to Highlander (apart from their general crappiness) was that they undid the whole "there can be only one" premise.

Under this analysis, what was Ghidrah?

Well, the first one did, like you said. The TV Series and the movies with Adrian Paul are in a different continuity then the rest of the movies and take place when "The Game" is still going on.

Yes, but then they had Highlander II: The Quickening, which loused up the whole premise (with all of the alien nonsense and such), and then the third film essentially ignores both the first sequel and the TV series and plays as if it's a direct sequel to the original. So it was hardly a well-considered franchise. A reboot needs to have a game plan that will maintain a clear internal consistency and lead up to The Gathering.
