Of all the episodes in three seasons, what episodes did you think had the most sad ending to it? I know there were quite a few episodes that was pretty sad like for instance these: The City Of The Edge Of Forever,This Side Of Paradise,All Our Yesterdays,The Paradise Sydrome. I think all those were sad in there own way episcally The City Of The Edge Of Forever and All Our Yesterdays. I say that because Kirk & Spock loose the ones that suposenly were thier soul mates. In "The City Of The Edge Of Forever" Kirk finally finds you could say 'soul mate' as easily he found true love, he lost it due to keep the timeline right. And we know he loved many women, but not to the extint as Edith, in which after she died, he had never been then same. And in "All Our Yesterdays" Spock falls for Zarabeth and he too lost her only because if she came back with him she would die. So those two episodes I thought was the most sadest.:(

The Trouble With Tribbles. I can't bear to think what the Klingons did to all those Tribbles in the engine room.

Without putting a lot of thought to it, I voted for City. Perhaps I'm just biased because I like the episode.

I'd say "City...", but there's a lot of other candidates.

I always thought the end of "Requiem for Methusula" was kinda sad...

I voted "Other"

It's definitely Charlie X in my book.

His pleading not to be taken back by the non-corporeal beings, combined with there being simply no other solution...

I've always found it quite moving.

I felt very badly for Miramanee's death and that of Jim's child.
I completely agree, and the music just added to it.
The music was good, wasn't it; and I don't remember that particular theme from another episode.
Without a doubt, "The Paradise Syndrome" has the saddest ending to me. Just as stated in the quotes above, the music was so touching and Shatner's performance was so profound I actually did shed a tear or two. I've never cried over a Star Trek episode, but this one did the trick.

PRIVATE LITTLE WAR. That one always resonates with me, and outweighs the goofiness of most of what went before in it.

I voted for Requiem for Methuselah. I've always thought it was really touching when Spock melded with Kirk at the end and said simply, "Forget."

I second Requiem for Methuselah. And I'm surprised nobody mentioned Balance of Terror. A truly sad moment, IMO.

I voted for City, for obvious reasons, but a close contender was for This Side of Paradise. I find it gut wrenching when Spock says, "For the first time in my life, I was happy."

You are right about Balance of Terror. The scene at the end of a grim-faced Kirk walking through the corridors after his talk with the crewmember who lost her husband in the battle really underscored the dangers the crew faced in space.
