What episode do you watch the most?

For some reason I keep coming back to "The Ultimate Computer" over and over. It's a really tautly written "bottle" episode, with a hammy-but-good performance from Shatner, an amazing performance by William Marshall as Daystrom, and that really great scene with Kirk and McCoy as they toast "Captain Dunsel." Of the various "Kirk talks a computer to death" episodes, this one is possibly my favorite, in part because the computer Kirk has to talk down is the one running his beloved ship.

I have a new favorite!! I just watched Conscience of the King and it was AMAZING!!! I love all the Shakespeare quotes and the mellow drama, oh the mellow drama!!! So much overacting. It was so fun to watch!

Yes, and a Shakespeare-esque tragic ending, perhaps even more tragic than the finale of COTEOF. And it’s another episode where Kirk falls in love.

2) Kirk flirting with Miri is icky.

It's not like he was into it. He just wanted to win Miri's trust and cooperation, so he's using what he has on tap, his charm. Also, Kim Darby was 19 at the time, and Miri was about 315. In those days (meaning the post-pandemic Apocalypse), an age difference like that was more acceptable. Taking the times into account, and Kirk's fatherly intentions, I don't see a problem.

Absolutely. One of these days someone here will declare this their favorite episode, and on that day, I shall rejoice. It isn't mine only because I like a few slightly better, but it's in my top 5-6 for sure. Tautly written, acted, and directed. And still relevant today.

Yeah, but Darby was playing a girl just hitting puberty and he didn’t know the kids were hundreds of years old. And Kirk didn’t have a single fatherly intention until Star Trek 3. He couldn’t get far enough away from the idea just a few weeks earlier.

It was classic Kirk strategy. For all of his reputation as a horndog, he usually used his charm and winning smile to manipulate women, either to get information, engineer an escape or just get his mission accomplished. You can tell by the looks that Rand knew what he was doing. If it were a boy, she would have been the lead here. Kirk was charming her because she was a girl and she had an almost immediate crush on him because of it.

I agree I don't think Kirk was doing anything wrong.
He had no intention of seducing Miri. Not ever.
Miri even got jealous of Kirk not being interested in her.
I'm trying to think if I as a mother would be upset if Kirk was speaking like that to my 14? year old and I think considering the situation I would be OK with it. Of course if it wasn't a post apocalyptic situation and he was trying to save her damn life I might have questions. But if there were adults around - Kirk would have been dealing with them not children.

Oh I didn't mean he was actually going to seduce her, but he played on her feelings and his flirting was obvious.

KIRK: What's your name?
MIRI: Miri.
KIRK: Miri. A pretty name for a pretty young woman.
MIRI: Pretty?
KIRK: Very pretty.

If I did that to a 14 year old girl I just met, my first officer's eyebrow would go right the hell up.

I really enjoy the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode. The humor of the situation between Captain Kirk, Spock and McCoy becomes evident in several exchanges.

For example,
"(Capt. Kirk) "But they do like Vulcans. Well, Mr. Spock, I didn't know you had it in you."
(Spock) "Obviously, tribbles are very perceptive creatures, Captain."
(Capt. Kirk) "Obviously."

Another example is,
(Dr. McCoy) "Spock, I don't know too much about these little tribbles yet, but there is one thing that I have discovered.
(Spock) "What is that, Doctor?"
(Dr. McCoy) "I like them -- better than I like you."
(Spock) "Doctor?"
(Dr. McCoy) "Yes?"
(Spock) "They do indeed have one redeeming characteristic."
(Dr. McCoy) "What's that?"
(Spock) "They do not talk too much. If you'll excuse me, sir."

My favorite character is Spock, and I enjoy the instances where he displays a humorous side.
