I choose the original. Mostly because I can't stand the warp nacelles on the new version. If they had toned those down to look sleeker rather than the fat, bulging insect eyes it has at the front, it could have been great.

Yeah. I wonder if they are going to tone those nacelles down with the refit. I enjoyed your description of them. Pretty creative.

Although after further thought, "eyes of an animated frog being squeezed" might have worked as well. What can I say - I prefer my federation starships a little less voluptuous. I am currently building an Enterprise -B model kit and plan to build more, Including a classic and a refit, I have no intention to handle the 09's ample nacelles. (I intend to make my refit an "A" when I get round to it).

As for a refit of the new Enterprise, I agree that the five year mission has started already with the things still attached as they are. I also can't imagine that a major redesign would be made for the new film.

The refit of the classic is my favorite ship design in Trek, followed closely by the Excelsior.

The 'refit' had some very minor tweaks but the biggest change was with the Impulse engines- about four times wider across the back of the saucer now...

I voted TOS - I just think the Nu-E looks unbalanced, especially from the side.

I haven't seen the movie in a while so probably have forgotten how the repaired ship looked. Dang I was hoping they would shave those giant things down some.

Thanks for voting. Yeah I voted TOS myself. I also really like the TMP refit version. The nacelles on that one still look sleek and advanced even today.

But please use the grammatically correct "Which Enterprise..." next time, and then I'll be happy too.

I voted for the TOS version. But only because JJ-prise reminds me of cancer-stricken World Wrestling body builders on steroids. I'm okay in general with redesigns - if they're good and don't exaggerate body parts out of natural proportion. There are plenty of designs I'd like. You know engineers; they love to change things.

TMP Enterprise actually! Beautiful lines!

Though there are some sets from each that I like. TMP rec area and sick bay, TMP/Nu shuttlebays & Nu bridge, etc. Overall, TMP had awesome sets. And TWOK the best phaser effects.

Okay, after a very long thought, I voted the New NCC 1701 from the Abrams movies. The classic ship is a beauty, and a revolutionary design, but from a purely objective standpoint I feel the new Enterprise is more believable as an exploration ship, and a lot more ambitious. Plus, it just looks beautiful from so many angles. It's an amazing design.

The producers even mentioned that they got inspiration from apple product/stores for some of the designs when the movie came out. Most futuristic movies now have some apple styles incorporated into their tech.

I have a vague recollection of a comment like that by one of the filmmakers back in (I think) 2008—about the appearance of the product, rather than the look of the stores (which never really has been a credible comparison)—but so far I haven't been able to track it down. You wouldn't happen to have a link?

There's quite a bit I like about the interior design, but it's the exterior which sold it, as far as I'm concerned. The lines of the nuEnterprise seem very much to be calling back to aircraft and automobile designs of the era between the Streamline Modern of the 30s and 40s and the Space Age designs of the 60s. I suspect there's more than a little influence from designers like Virgil Exner in the look of Ryan Church's nuEnterprise.

Now I never noticed that, but you're right! You can kind of see in the nacelles, especially with the little fins at the end.

Just goes to show how subjective it really is. It is not universally loved - see vote tally.

Impulse engines were different, but that was about the only thing I noticed. I don't think that would be called a "refit" either, so much as just a simple modification.

It's probably been mentioned before, but in watching the video I just realized the difference between the old Enterprise and the JJ-prise is that on his new ship, his nacelles still have their foreskins.

Actually, I like the C quite a bit. After the original 1701s (TOS, Refit, Abrams), it's either the C or the E as my next favourite. I really love that design.
