Suppose Star Trek was being rebooted at TOS, and that, for the sake of argument, the NuTrek does not yet exist.
What changes would you have made to update the ship for a modern audience, but still be consistent with the other, more recent shows like DS9 and Voyager, even Enterprise, or even something else?
What changes might be made to the shuttlecraft?
Changes I could see happening:
-Replacing the rainbow-pink-orange bussard collector "bulbs" with something resembling a shock-cone intake (think SR-71 Blackbird)
-More pronounced paneling, even a bit of aztec patterns on the hull.
-Moving the impulse engines to the neck or the top of the Engineering hull, making them more round and cylindrical.
-Limit all engine light colors to the thermal spectrum, else it may look cheesy. Impulse engine exhaust shows a discrete, but visible plume of plasma.
-Phaser emitters on the hull (shaped like real lasers, spherical in shape, similar to TMP phasers.)
-Torpedo launcher on the neck, similar to Phase-II Enterprise.
-No greeble.
-A few docking connectors and umbilicals around the ship, such as the neck, saucer, bottom of Engineering, etc.
-Full interior redressing, though to what end I don't know. Keep the reds and dull blues. No lens flares.
-Dim bluish glow behind the navigational deflector dish.
To be clear, this thread is different from the thread about going back in time and changing something about the TOS enterprise. That would be about minimal changes to the ship from the 1960s. This is about creating something considerably newer and different, more like how nuTrek rebooted the design, except presumably not horrible.
