What do you think the music should be like in Star Trek XI?

Despite the up and downs of quality in the films, one thing that has remained consistent is the fantastic scores each film gave us (with maybe one or two exceptions). For someone who has all of the film scores on CD the music is going to be very important for me in this film. I for one hope who ever ends up scoring don’t forget the great music and composers who have preceded them. One thing I can never stand is when a composer has too much of an ego to even reference earlier works (although often this can be down to copyright issues another I have a gripe with).

Every Star Trek film contained the Star Trek fan fare, most opened with it. Also as half the films where scored by the late Jerry Goldsmith, half of them had a lot of continuity as far as themes go. I really hope we at least get the Star Trek fan fare and who ever composes this doesn't have an ego so big he/she ignores it. Don't get me wrong, I want most of it to be new and original but I don't want it to all be new and original because Star Trek has a lot of history.

I think the music should play an important role in the film, some films have background scores that you don't even notice (much like the TV scores in modern Trek). But the Star Trek films have always had scores that are very in your face and that's why I love them. You can't forget them just as you can't forget what is happening on screen. I'm not saying I want the music to take such a big role as it did in TMP (although I wouldn't complain), but I do want it to be more than just filler. I want it to be special.

I just want them to do justice to the score. The very first Star Trek film set a very high bar for the following movies. I want to see this film at least try and reach it.

I dunno, I'm rambling on here. What do you guys think?

I think you mean XII. XI was years ago and it had a fantastic soundtrack.

I want an epic version of the "Amok Time" fight music in the next movie. That would be awesome.

More Beastie Boys. Maybe all Beastie Boys. Intergalactic as the words STAR TREK appear on screen and Fight For Your Right during the epic fight.

Beastie Boys should compose the entire soundtrack.

It'd totally be free publicity for the movie, like how everyone was all like "let's see the new Daft Punk music video" when Tron Legacy came out.

Plus, I love Beastie Boys.

I love that ship, but I'm glad we don't allow sig. banners.

And the music should be good.

As long as Heart Attack Man gets in there somewhere.

The rest of the music should be steel drum, didgeridoo and mouth farts.

The music in the last one was great. I'm guessing that the music in the next one will have a similar sound but probably also include a lot more TOS elements.

Like the last one just with updated versions of the Amok Time theme and the Klingon theme of the movies added.

I agree the music was great in Star Trek XI. I want the music from "the Arena" in the next film.:)

they should use that new age flute music they used with Chakotay and his generic Amerindian plots on VOY.

I really liked the music in the last film and listen to soundtrack all the time, even when I'm writing a more traditional Trek book.

The old Goldsmith fanfare was great, but I can see why they would want a new approach for a new direction. It was enough to get the old Alexander Courage music at the very end.

It wasn't about the composer's "ego." It was about making it clear that the reboot was not more of the same old thing . . . .

(Same thing with the new SUPERMAN movie. I'm going to miss the old John Williams score, but they probably need to do something different in order to make a clean break with the past.)

I liked Galaxy Quest Sound Track better than Trek 09'
Trek 09' struck me as a bit silly like Galaxy Quest just not as good as Galaxy Quest. It wasn't bad as sound tracks go but it absolutely nothing special. The Teaser Soundtrack was Epic and it was a true downer that it was no part of the film but Seeing the movie now it would be tragic to put something that Epic on Abrams film...much like putting a more serious looking Enterprise or Bridge or Engineering in his film would loose his particullar style. I prefer not mixing it up. If this is Abrams Trek then let it be full on Abrams Trek.

YES! These are the kinds of classic Trek cameos I yearn for, not geriatric Kirk spots.

They should get Danny Elfman to compose a new theme, based largely on his Batman work.
Except for the scenes in engineering, which should use an instrumental version of the Budweiser jingle.
